About Me

CURTIS PHILLIP LAMBERT II (born in Providence RI.), his Mother from Brooklyn N.Y., and his Father from The South. He is the oldest of two, he and his brother are 11 mos. apart. The first band he was in back in H.S., and it consisted of his brother and 3 other boy's which were all brothers too! The band was called MAXIMUS... While attending elementary and junior high, he took clarinet in the school band. While his main interest was sports, he was introduced to music at an early age. His Grandmother was a working Jazz Tap Dancer for a Group out of N.Y., and his Father had his own band. The Motown sound had an substantial affect on his influences as well.Curt's father was a drummer whom played a wide range of music, in fact his drum teacher was Larry Jordan, the father of the beautiful Claudia Jordan of THE PRICE IS RIGHT/DEAL OR NO DEAL. Jazz was what really caught Jr's ear. He can remember listening to cats like Cobham, and Miles Davis at an early age. Curtis started playing the drums and then switched to bass out of compromise., his brother couldn't play bass.CURT THEN SWITCHED TO BASS.HE TOOK LESSONS FROM THOMAS WHEELER, A KNOW JAZZ UPRIGHT BASSIST, WHOM PLAYED THE NEWPORT CIRCUT.HE FOUND THE UPRIGHT COOL, BUT WANTED TO PLAY ELECTRIC, SO HE DECIDED TO WALK AWAY FROM THE UPRIGHT, AND PICK UP THE ELECTRIC. LAMBERT SAY'S HE IS SELF TAUGHT.HIS FATHER WAS HEAVY INTO BUDDY MILES,BILLY COBHAM, THE CRUSADERS, AND DAVIS. SO JAZZ HIT HIM EARLY.HIS BROTHER KEITH STAYED THE DRUMMER. AFTER H.S. THE DUO WOULD VENTURE OUT, AND OPEN FOR THEIR FATHER'S BAND, WHOM AT THE TIME WAS ON THE CIRCUT WITH JEFFERY OSBORNE OF L.T.D. THE TWO WOULD GET THE CHANCE TO TRAVEL, AND GIG WITH VARIOUS PLAYER'S. AFTER GETTING MARRIED, CURT HAD TO COME OFF THE ROAD, AND TAKE CARE OF HIS FAMILY, KEITH WENT ON AND SET HIS ROOTS IN VIRGINIA BEACH. WHILE BACK HOME LAMBERT MET UP WITH A SEASONED VET DRUMMER OUT OF PITTSBURGH PA. THIS CAT WAS NATE STRINGFIELD, AND THEY FORMED '' IN THE POCKECT'', A DANCE/FUNK TOP 40 BAND. THEY WOULD GET STEADY WORK ON THE MARRIOTT CIRCUT. AFTER THE SIX YEAR STINT, LAMBERT SEPARATES, GOES SOLO, AND STRINGFIELD HEADS TO NEW YORK TO PRODUCE.LAMBERT KEEPS AN OPEN EAR, AND HIS INFLUENCES ARE ALL OVER THE MAP! PLAYING DRUMS AND BASS HAS IT'S ADVANTAGES, AND FINDING NEWS WAYS OF APPLYING BASS IS A TRUE MOTIVATOR.'' YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT WHAT TYPE OF VOICE YOU WANT TO HAVE ON YOUR AXE, THEN JUST APPLY IT '' A WELL KNOW PRODUCER TELLS LAMBERT '' YOU HAVE A GOOD SOUND, KEEP KNOCKIN ON THE DOOR, IT WILL OPEN''POSITIVE WORDS, AND WITH HIS RELENTLESS WORK ETHIC, GOOD THINGS WILL COME.

THE GROOVE: THIS MEANS FINDING THE BEST COMMON POINTS . THE KEY ELEMENT IS CHEMISTRY. GROOVE CAN BE STUDIED, BUT IT CAN'T BE SUMMED UP WITH A DIAGRAM, WRITTEN DOWN ON STAFF PAPER OR PROGRAMMED INTO A COMPUTER.
CONVICTION AND CONSISTENCY.
WHAT YOU DON'T PLAY IS AS IMPORTANT AS WHAT YOU PLAY. NOTE LENGTH IS A KEY FACTOR.
SIMPLICITY = GROOVE
GREAT BASSISTS OFTEN SAY THAT SIMPLICITY DOESN'T MEAN SIMPLE-MINDEDNESS!!! SOME OF THE GREATEST GROOVE PLAYERS ARE QUITE COMPLEX. (JAMES JAMERSON, JACO PASTORIUS) NO DOUBT THESE GUYS COULD LAY IT DOWN. THE BALANCE AND INTEGRATION REQUIRES A GREAT DEAL OF CREATIVITY. GREAT MUSICIANS SAY ''THE GROOVE IS THE HEARTBEAT, THE PULSE, AND RESPIRATION." BUT THE ONLY WAY TO LEARN TO GROOVE IS TO PLAY WITH SOMEONE WHO ALREADY KNOWS HOW, AND THIS IS POSSIBLE, ONLY IF THEY LET YOU IN.
THE GROOVE: IS IT A TECHNICAL SKILL, SOMETHING THAT CAN BE ANALYZED AND PRACTICED? OR IS IT A METAPHYSICAL CONCEPT, BEYOND COMPREHENSION? THE PLAYER WHO CONTROLS THE GROOVE CONTROLS THE BAND. THE BASS PLAYER DOES MORE THINGS AT ONE TIME THAT AFFECT EVERYONE IN THE BAND THAN ANYONE ELSE!-THE GROOVE CARRIES YOU FROM MOMENT TO MOMENT. THE GROOVE IS THE PART OF THE MUSIC THAT COMES CLOSEST TO YOUR BIOLOGICAL BEING. A GOOD GROOVE ACTIVATES SOMETHING IN THE VISCERAL LIZARD BRAIN WE CAN FEEL IN OUR BODIES, BUT IT BYPASSES OUR CEREBRAL CORTEX, EVOKING PRIMAL RESPONSE!!! IN THE BASS WORLD THERE SEEMS TO BE TWO CAMPS: THE GROOVE FREAKS AND THE CREATIVITY FREAKS. THIS IS FOOLISH TO BE PLACED ON EITHER SIDE. IT IS JUST AS BAD TO BE IRRESPONSIBLE AND CREATIVE, AS IT IS TO BE RESPONSIBLE AND BORING. GROOVE PLAYING IS COMING BACK. LISTEN TO THE RAPPERS, AND ALTERNATIVE GROUPS;SUCH AS DR DRE, SNOOP, THE GAME, ON THE ALT SIDE LISTEN TO ALICE IN CHAINS, PEARL JAM. THE SAME 4 BAR PATTERN THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE SONG: PEOPLE SIMPLY WANT THE GROOVE!Created with mySpace Profile EditorCreated with mySpace Profile Editor.Created with mySpace Profile Editor

Sounds Like: THIS IS A QUESTION THAT IS FREQUENTLY ASKED. TO CREATE A SIGNATURE SOUND, LAMBERT HAS LET THE MUSICIANS PLAY THEIR INSTRUMENTS, AND WHEN IT'S CHEMISTRY, THE SOUND FALLS INTO PLACE AUTOMATICALLY. SO TO SUM IT UP, THE SIGNATURE SOUND IS THUNDER, LIGHTNING, FOLLOWED BY THE ERIE FEEL OF THE AMAZON RAINFOREST!!! IT IS SIMPLY AN ECLECTIC JOURNEY...

Here is a review from www.localbandsri.com based on the Battle of the Bands First round:
If you've never heard of BSA , go see a live show. They surprised the hell out of everyone at the Greenroom. I saw them walk up to the stage and I didn't know what to think. They were an older group and with their age came a much deeper musical understanding. The vocalist had a beautiful voice and was loving every second of being on stage. The guitarist was having a good time playing his simply funky riffs. The bassist was playing such simple little lines, but he sounded ridiculously good. The bassist of my band, Pete had a good time watching him and screaming every second he got the chance. Last but not least THE DRUMMER WAS IN THE POCKET, she played without missing a single beat!!!! There are not enough good things I can say about this group. Thats why they won and you will be seeing them at the finals. Congratulations!!!!!!!!!! get a 9.3 (only because its not my personal taste in music)
''SIMPLICITY IS ALMOST ALWAY'S BETTER, YOU CAN GET SIMPLICITY OUT OF COMPLEXITY IF YOUR CLEVER ENOUGH, AND THAT IS HOW YOU GET COMPLEXITY OVER TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC'' JAZZ GREAT HERBIE HANCOCK.
