Sounds Like: Electronic music beyond the dancefloor. The tracks are heavily sample-based, exploiting the contingencies and possibilities of direct manipulation of audio material. I don’t like midi too much, for it is simply a digitalisation of the score-principle. The score-principle has never been a pure technology of music-storage, but instead had a huge influence on the way people compose music, how audio material is coded and decoded. Techniques of composition like chromatic transposition as well as basic schemes like chords are an offspring of poetry. Everything has to pass the corsets of symbolic language, the order of significants. In so far, a lot of recent music that comes in a post-modern fashion is in fact deeply rooted in the old literacy-based societies. The Lost Rivers of London is an attempt to explore music as such, leaving behind the iron cages of language and scripture. In diesem Sinne, Alfred!
