Early 2008 in a Tasmanian town called Hobart, two friends, Alex Maloney (bass) and Adam Davison (drums), were sick of the pervading grungelessness and decided to form a band. As drum and bass grunge bands suck, they recruited close friend Ben Knight, a lead-guitarist who had grown up listening to an abundance of classic and hard rock. This left just the position of singer/guitarist to fill, which is when they found Spiro Noutsatos. The line up now completed became known as POWERCHILD. Mid-2009, Noutsatos left the band to focus attention on other music and Powerchild currently have the hauntingly-brilliant Sterling Rayment fronting them.
It wasn't long before they were spewing forth many songs from their grungetarded brains. With their major influences being Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, The Drones, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath and Kyuss there is never a shortage of inspiration. With live shows that are raw, loud and spacey, POWERCHILD are ready to unleash some grunge upon an unsuspecting Tasmania then conquer the mainland. The band's upcoming EP is currently being mixed at Fat Lip Studios and will be out for all to hear this year!
