All four members of Leaving Sideways are seasoned veterans to the New Jersey music scene. Having enjoyed success with other local bands, the group officially formed in February 2008. Leaving Sideways is a guitar driven hard rock band with pockets of funk and melody.
In February 2007, Davin and Don joined forces. For a number of years, they were acquaintances who frequented the same local hangout. During this time, they kept each other updated on their latest projects. Driven by music, the two ultimately decided to take their interests to the next level. Davin and Don set forth on their first jam, not knowing that it would eventually inspire the formation of a brand new project. Armed with an arsenal of ideas, Raj joined them two months later. With four songs nearing completion, the trio went on a search for a drummer. Eight months would go by before Kevin ultimately filled the void. He answered an ad that was put up by Don at a local music store. After just one jam, the group knew that the line-up was complete.
The guys settled on the name “Leaving Sideways†based on their rehearsal arrangement. The guys shared practice space with another band. Due to the amount of equipment in the room, each member had to exit the studio by turning sideways, thus coining the group’s name.
In April 2008, Leaving Sideways exploded onto the scene, playing its first show in legendary Asbury Park, New Jersey. Thriving off that show’s positive feedback, the guys continued to write and perform, striving to reach the widest fan base possible.
Leaving Sideways has been able to draw the attention of producer Tim Gilles (Taking Back Sunday, Thursday) to collaborate on some forthcoming recordings.
The group’s debut full length album is slated for the fall of 2009.
