HIP HOP

About Me

Hip hop music is a genre of music typically consisting of a rhythmic style of speaking called rap over backing beats performed on a turntable by a DJ. Hip hop music is part of hip hop culture, which began in New York City in the 1970s, predominantly among African Americans and Latinos (the other two elements are breakdancing and graffiti art). [1] The term rap is sometimes used synonymously with hip hop music, though it originally referred only to rapping itself.Rapping, also referred to as MCing or emceeing, is a vocal style in which the performer speaks rhythmically and in rhyme, generally to a beat. Beats are traditionally sampled from portions of other songs by a DJ, though synthesizers, drum machines, and live bands are also used, especially in newer music. Rappers may perform poetry which they have written ahead of time, or improvise rhymes on the spot. Though rap is usually an integral component of hip hop music, DJs sometimes perform and record alone, and many instrumental acts are also defined as hip hop.Hip hop arose in New York City when DJs began isolating the percussion break from funk or disco songs for audiences to dance to. The role of the MC was originally to introduce the DJ and the music, and to keep the audience excited. The MC would speak between songs, giving exhortations to dance, greetings to audience members, jokes and anecdotes. Eventually, this practice became more stylized, and came to be known as rapping. By 1979, hip hop had become a commercially recorded music genre, and began to enter the American mainstream. It also began its spread across the world. In the 1990s, a form called gangsta rap became a major part of American music, causing significant controversy over lyrics which were perceived by some as promoting violence, promiscuity, drug use and misogyny. Nevertheless, by the beginning of the 2000s, hip hop became a staple of popular music charts and is now performed in widely varying styles around the world. The Black Dot-The 7 Lights Of Hip HopThe History Of NYC GraffitiThe History of NYC B-BoyingAfrika Bambaataa & the Zulu NationRest In Peace To The Fallen OnesChristopher "Biggie Smalls" Wallace (1972-1997) Tupac "2pac" Amaru Shakur (1971-1996) Lamont "Big L" Coleman (1974-1999) Christopher "Big Pun" Rios (1971-2000) Jason "JMJ" William Mizell (1965-2002) Russel "Ol’ Dirty Bastard" Jones (1968-2004) Lisa "Left eye" Nicole Lopez (1971-2002) Scott "Scott Larock" Sterling (1962-1987) Aaliyah Dana Haughton (1979-2001) James Joseph Brown (1933-2006) And the many who’s names didnt catch light

My PhilosiphyHip Hop is not only a genre of music, but a lifestyle. An "escape from the harsh realitys of the ghetto" if you will lol. Allthough most of todays "Hip Hop" music is all about the ghettos of america, the trials and tribulations of a troubled adolescent, and the lifestyle of a big time hustler. Most of todays "Hip Hop" is fabricated and exagerated to an extreme. When hip hop began in the south bronx, nyc in the mid 1970’s it was all about partying and having a good time. Now its all about the money, jewlery, & hoes. There is no intelligence in the hip hop lyrics of today with the exception of a few (mos def, nas, talib kweli, common sense) -just to name a few. Even individuals such as kanye west and jay-z are versitile when it comes to the streets and the glamerous hollywood life. As much as they want to deny it the whole "crunk" south movement is not at all hip hop. it is hip hop in the sense of rythmatic verses and hooks. but subject matter such as "bling bling" and "trap or die" on every track of an album is not hip hop at all, especially when 98% of these rappers never lived the life they speak of in theyre lyrics. Also now everyone wants to be a gangbanger. ex. Lil wayne & Birdman all of a sudden becoming "blood" after at least 10 years in the hip hop scene. which makes no sense at all, its moving backwords if you ask me. "Baby" being a so called "5 star General" is a complete publicity stunt for respect and "street cred". We all know he isnt no 5*G after 5-6 months of claimin to be blood. These dudes are Jokes and a complete discrace to Hip Hop as much as "Lil Wayne groupies" dont want to admit it Punchlines and Metaphors are not everything. 12 punchlines in each verse makes it a pointless song and complete waiste. Please people lets get back to the 5 blood lines (EMCEEING, TURN TABLEISM, B-BOYING/BREAK DANCING, PEACING/BOMBERS/GRAFFITI ARTIST, & THE DRUMS/ART OF BEAT MAKING)peace, love & tranquility.-bang em bars
