my eyes are inside-out, i think. i see the world each time i blink. flashes of light. birds in mid-flight. the world, it unfolds, when i'm sleeping at night. and as i grow older, my insides will smolder. my arms will reach higher, their leaves will catch fire. and there i will stand. so mighty, so grand. a great burning bush, my limbs caught afire. the spark in my heart will grow higher and higher. and the people will come from all around. their feet, my roots, on common ground. they'll stand so still, and gaze at me. that mass of roaring, burning tree. their ears, their eyes, fixed carefully. what higher voice will speak through me? and slowly, as the days do pass, their toes will settle in the grass. and though some will wander away, others will stay, and stay, and stay. until at last, my limbs grow cold. and time will take me, withered, old. but in my wake, they will remain. through wind, and heat, and pouring rain. they'll drink so deep, they'll reach so high. they'll take in sun right from the sky! and all who stand beneath their shade, will feel their worries slowly fade. they'll close their eyes, and look within. and breathe in deep, the passing wind. and though their minds and souls are dark, at last, the spark! they'll see the spark! with eyes shut tight, they'll see the light. they'll push it outward, burning bright. oh how they had it, all so wrong! it was within them all along! so have faith in a wise old tree: you don't need eyes to truely see. nor feet, or wings, to set you free. if anything, take this from me.
music that makes hearts stop and start beating with every other note. atoms pulsating in unison. notes that bend and twist around their limbs, compelled to dance like puppets on strings. oblong, lilting tunes that seep into the air and make the world swoon and wave in a drunken trance. rocking while rolling. sedated laughter. traveling through time on the kitchen floor. the magnificence of colors. their monochromatic counterparts. images that do not capture, but transform, their surroundings. trees stretch their limbs, swaying arms and wiggling toes. wandering fingers tracing hills, the topography of our bodies. mental maps to hidden treasures. christmas light constellations, stars pinned to the ceiling. cyclops with a telescopic glass eye. smoke blown through a bubble wand. gaping smiles with rotting teeth. slipping off to sleep, dreams leaking into reality. drifting phantoms: blurry faces, refined hearts. a sea of kudzu beneath the wrinkled sheets. 35mm eyelids. click. splash. repeat.
