DECLARATION OF LOVE Two pianos and a voiceFilm music and songs by Stefano CaprioliThe present recording project arises from the desire to prepare for stage performance two-piano versions of some of the compositions I have written for cinema and television. These pieces have been accompanied by songs expressely written for this occasion. It has been a honor for me to be accompanied in this task by my dear friend and excellent pianist, Lorenzo Capelli and by the talented singer Valentina Ducros, who has also authored the text of one of the songs. I have borrowed the title of this CD from a movie by Pupi Avati Dichiarazioni d’Amore of which I composed the music. In Dichiarazioni d’Amore the director transfigured his love for Bologna in a delicate love story. In the same way, I hope that the sequence of piano compositions recorded here will transmit the listeners my love for music. Putting together these themes for a gala performance is like inviting old friends with whom I wish to revisit the happiest moments of our life. Among the present pieces the one dearest to me is a suite of themes written for the television series Sacco and Vanzetti directed by my good friend Fabrizio Costa and produced by the legendary Goffredo Lombardo, President of Titanus, shortly before his disappearance. What a fantastic experience Sacco and Vanzetti was for me! At the time I felt my music emerged as by magic from the images of the movie and even now I feel deeply moved while playing this themes. The pieces are arranged by using a variety of styles and piano techniques that best suit the musical personality of Lorenzo’s and mine. Virtuoso passages alternate with improvisation-like moments; and the baroque world of Penso, mia viola happily lives side by side with the vaguely circus music of L’uomo che rubò la Gioconda, and the American pop sound of I don’t know what to feel, a song that allows Valentina’s voice to shine in all its beauty. Happy listening,Stefano Caprioli www.stefanocaprioli.com
