The Lost Pelican Band

About Me

The Lost Pelican Band is an eclectic, fun lovin' group, based on the Garden Island of Kauai. Our relaxed sound is a fusion of Hawaiian, blues, folk, rock and country music, with an emphasis on acoustic instruments, ensemble vocals, and playing quietly. The surprisingly diverse local music scene on Kauai is comprised of small, intimate venues, so quiet is good!
Our name comes from a seafood restaurant in Durango, Colorado. That's 700 miles from the ocean, so if you see a pelican in Colorado, it is truly lost. Same thing here on Kauai. Even though we live in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, pelicans do not typically reside here either. So if you see one on island, it is indeed lost! Come see us in our adopted habitat soon. Mahalo nui loa!

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Sam Kitsch: Guitar, Vocals
Jess Montgomery: Lap steel, Guitar, Dobro, Vocals
Carlene Hughes: Harmonica, Percussion, Vocals
Gail Little: Bass, Vocals
Influences: Hank Williams, early Elvis, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Donovan, Hendrix, Zeppelin, The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Dan Hicks, Tom Petty, John Prine, Kauai legend Larry Rivera, and especially, of course, like billions of others, The Beatles. Their universal appeal, originality, and sense of humor make them a wonderful role model for any band, in any era, in any genre. How could you see or hear them in their prime and not want to be a musician?
Sounds Like: Acoustic-blues-rock-folk-country-hawaiian music. Easy on the ears, but not so easy to categorize. An audience member at a recent gig called us "born again pagans", and at another gig someone used the term "Hawaiian folk fusion". PLEASE listen and help us decide!
Record Label: Roll Your Own
Type of Label: Indie
