We face challenges, every single day. If we fail the first time, or again, it's not that we're "bad" - just that we've failed, and we won't move on to the next stage until we pass that level. It's merely that that same challenge will keep confronting us, until we finally pass it. This is true, in regards to every single facet of human life. It is one's 'true' courage, that will finally see them climb over these hurdles, and pass that level of life. One isn't necessarily born with courage, but one is born with potential. Without courage, we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency. We can't be kind, true, merciful, or generous.“It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.” -E.E. Cummings, 20th century American poet. It sounds easy enough, but make no mistake: being your best, most real self takes more bravery than just anyone can muster. Maybe that’s why so few people become their authentic selves. The courage to let go of others’ expectations, to stop believing what society says about you is almost impossible…apart from supernatural intervention.As you can see, I'm Jimmy (aka Dasher - just for you Lucy!! I'm also known as Jimmy Dean Friday [ZEROSEVEN Road trip - good times!!]). Well, my name is actually James, but I prefer Jimmy. I'm a born and bred Geelong boy, am 18, and have just moved to Torquay. This year, 2008, I start my University education, at Deakin in Waurn Ponds. I am doing a Bachelor of Science; majoring in Forensic Biology. It should be good fun. I am also the President of the Geelong Oaktree Foundation, which is cool.I recently embarked upon a journey (July 2007), that was aimed at confronting, and beginning to end a few significant social justice issues; namely, extreme poverty. The ZEROSEVEN Road trip, was designed to raise awareness on these issues, something that we achieved. Going into this trip, I expected to leave as the same person. However, thanks too quite a bit of soul searching throughout the trip - thanks to the REACH sessions - I was able to get in touch with the person that I am meant to be.It is impossible for me to describe to everyone just how much that week long campaign changed my life - except to those who joined me on the trip - needless to say, I have come out of this trip as a more mature, more compassionate, more knowledgeable, more believing, and more powerful individual. The influence, and inspiration that I drew from everyone around me, was significant in me becoming a much better individual, and for that, I thank each and every one of you, for your support, and at times, guidance. You know who you are. I miss you all so very much.My philosophy is that you only live once, and you need to make the most of the one life that is given too you. Thus, I'm always smiling, always laughing, and always making the most of the limited opportunities that I receive. I'm down to earth, friendly, honest, and very reliable. In general, I am more willing to, and always do, help others, rather than helping myself.As long as I can remember, I've always had a knack of helping others, and being good at it. Whether it's through voluntary work, or just with mates after a breakup, I have always lent my support, and wish to continue doing so. My aim in life, is to try and make the world a better place to live, and to help raise awareness for many incidents, and problems in the world, both social and environmental, that need to be rectified.I am an honest person, who is highly outspoken on many issues. I am compassionate, reliable, and meticulous in all that I do. I am heavily into conservation and charity ideals, yet I am laid back, and can have a lot of fun. I have my own set of morals, yet I share many with other people. I am an individual, yet I thrive in team situations. I hope to help as many people as possible, before my time on earth finishes.I have been described as: charming, a heartbreaker, a ladies man (LMAO!!), a legend, a tool, courageous/brave to the point of stupidity, a genius, and the most chivalrous guy on earth!! Chivalry/gallantry lives on!! I've also been told that I look like Jason Smith (aka Robbie off Home and Away) and, just recently, I've been told that apparently I look a lot like Kevin Rudd. I struggle to see the resemblance, however!! I think it has something to do with the glasses =D.Real friends and family mean everything to me...they come first...always!! My little brother, Luke (aka Mr Frodo), is simply the best kid you will ever meet. As much as I sometimes would like to kill him, I'd kill for him, anyday. Love you so much, kiddo.I love my sport, even if I'm not the greatest sportsperson. I enjoy reading, writing fictional stories, hanging out with mates, meeting new people, and yeah. I'm a bit of a greenie, and I'm big into conservation, and charity stuff. I'm strongly into honesty, dedication, love, freedom, friendship, conservation (as previously mentioned), and I am a fairly passionate Christian. I guess some people think I'm a bit weird, but I don't really care, because I know I have mates, and they're all fantastics people!!Anyway, just get to know me, and then make up your mind. Too those of you, who have taken the time to sit there, and read this long, and probably boring piece of writing, I commend you. You are a true friend, or, you are a friend in the making.
