Jed Leiber

Born in New York City, Jed Leiber attended The Julliard School of Music, The Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music, and Columbia University. Leiber has worked with some of the music industry’s most distinguished artists ranging from the incomparable Aretha Franklin to guitar legend Jeff Beck. He has also collaborated with the industry’s most eminent songwriters: Burt Bacharach, Jeff Barry, Gerry Goffin, Joe Perry, Steven Tyler and more. His work has been performed by a diverse group of classic artists including Mavis Staples, Hall and Oates, Peter Frampton and Toto.
For his music in feature films, Leiber has been nominated twice for a Grammy Award and was the winner of a prestigious BAFTA (British Academy Award) for Best Original Music. Leiber composed the scores for the feature films: Love Potion 9 starring Sandra Bullock and Blue Chips starring Nick Nolte. Leiber provided music for To Live and Die in L.A., Honeymoon in Vegas, and the Quentin Tarantino film, Curdled, in collaboration with Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash. For television, Leiber wrote music for Sesame Street, in addition to the award-winning score to National Geographic’s, Gravity Never Sleeps. Leiber composed and performed the title theme music for the syndicated sketch comedy show The Newz. His theatre credits include musical director for the Tony award-winning Broadway musical hit Godspell.

Blige, Joe Cocker, Sheryl Crow, Nelly Furtado, Josh Grobin, Faith Hill, Enrique Iglesias, Madonna, Jesse McCartney, Meatloaf, Liza Minnelli, Ozzy Osbourne, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Shaggy, T.I., and Justin Timberlake. Jed Leiber:
*Co-wrote “Falling Out of Love” for Aretha Franklin’s latest album.
*Co-produced and arranged John Oates’ current solo album/DVD, for which he also co-wrote five of the songs and played keyboards.
*Played piano on “Good News” for The Les Paul Tribute album with the legendary Sam Cook on vocals, and an all star band: Jeff Beck, Vinnie Caliuta, Nathan East, and Pino Paladino.
*Co-wrote the critically acclaimed song “Above the Clouds” with Cyndi Lauper for her last album “The Body Acoustic.”
*Collaborated on songs with ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons and Julian Lennon.
*Co-wrote and produced the opening sequence of Guitar Hero 3 with Guns ’N’ Roses’ Slash featured on guitar.
*Co-wrote and produced three songs for American Idol finalist Ryan Starr that has just been released on the album “Curtain Call”.
*Co-wrote and is producing the title track “Evergreen” for a movie and music video starring one of his collaborators, Billy Morrison (Camp Freddy, Circus Diablo)
*Is developing up and coming artists Geoff Byrd and Jason Rowe.
Leiber is currently writing the songs for the Broadway adaptation of Ruthless People (starring Bette Midler and Danny DeVito.) He is collaborating with hit screenwriter Dale Launer (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, My Cousin Vinny, Blind Date, Love Potion 9…) and Hall of Fame songwriter Jeff Barry (“Be My Baby,” “River Deep Mountain High,” “Leader of the Pack,” Sugar, Sugar, …) He will be leaving this month to record John Oates’ new solo album with an all-star band including guest appearances by the great Steve Cropper, Bela Fleck, and the Blind Boys of Alabama. Leiber co-wrote two songs for the album and he is co-producing those with John Oates. Jed recently co-wrote and produced the song “Dreaming” for the new Tommy Hilfiger/Estee-Lauder fragrance that has just been released internationally.
