Arising from the Valley of the Sun, Brian's Escape has undergone several lineup changes since their birth in 2005 under the name Breaking the Silence. With the addition of Larry Gast III in 2008, the band began to explode with musical vitality. They dashed off to the studio to record the epicness that was being produced. The finished product was sheer bodacity and was given the title, Scrumptious. The lineup's debut album, originally released in August of 2008, perfectly captures the band's raw power and dynamism. Furthermore, the live tracking allows listeners to metaphorically taste the energy radiating from the songs.
The music is excellent, but to classify it is darn near impossible. Some say it is simply jamm music for the soul coupled with some aggressive, yet classy, rockin' roll. Others assert it is a result of various influences such as the RX Bandits, Muse, Pink Floyd, Thrice, and The Bled; however, none of these explanations quite give the music its justice. What is known is that the band is a mixture of the godly bass of Travis Kassenbrock, the rhythmful rhythm of Trevor Swaine, the spontaneous and progressive riff-age of Josh Rosenbaum, the drop dead gorgeous drum beats of Dylan Kassenbrock, and the Larrification of all things good by Larry Gast III. The best piece of advice would be to listen to the songs and decide for yourself what exactly this Brian's Escape music really is.
Overall, the album possesses a wide variety of styles; however, they all maintain the unique, commanding sound of Brian's Escape. One can find madness in "D.U.I.," melody in "Breaking the Silence," and inexplicability in the intro. Finally, one of the album's boldest aspects are the two improv jamms which were recorded after the musicians refused to discontinue playing when the song was supposed to end. Nothing was added to these musical pieces except for the strumming of piano strings in "Evil Eagle." These jamms clearly show the band's inability to stop playing. They simply have too much raw musical energy to unleash upon the world. And it must be released.
Then, in 2009, a most monumental event occurred; Remy Coullandreau entered into the world of Brian's Escape. His unrivaled originality and spontaneity on keyboard added the final missing piece to the band. With their new empowering sound, the band set out to record a new EP. The new material, which is planned to be pressed and released in summer 2010, is by far the band's most intricate and progressive work to date. Make sure to check for updates on the EP's progress.
