I am a Jazz drummer. I play off-shoot Jazz music that is inspired by all genres. I have been to Japan to perform 4 times within the past 2 years played a total of 12 shows in Japan. I currently drum for a band with my twin brother Jared and I called: Mattson 2. I also drum in a collaboration project with Ray Barbee Meets The Mattson 2. My approach to drumming is less technical than emotional, I try and focus on listening to the music, rather than always playing. I feel that having a twin brother to play with me has made my style more musical in the sense that i have always had someone to listen to, and im not just a drum chop workshop. Some of the drummers that inspire my approach and feel to the drumset are-Brian Blade, Elvin Jones, and John McEntire--but i really try and have my own identity, and original sound on the drumset. I love the writing style of Haruki Murakami, and the movies by Wong Kar Wai. I also love Jazz music that is loud and in your face. Beer, Vodka. Dreams. Todd Rundgren, and the Cocteau Twins.
