Band Members: Flutist - Matt Eakle, was born in the San Francisco Bay Area and has been active in the Bay Area music scene since the early 70s. Matt is probably best known as the flutist in the David Grisman Quintet. Matt played his first gig as a DGQ member in 1989 at Yoshi's in Oakland, with special guest Vassar Clements. "One of the nicest things about playing with David,†says Matt, “has been the opportunity to play music with his friends - Vassar, Tony Rice, Stephane Grappelli, Jerry Garcia, John Hartford, Mark O'Connor, Bonnie Raitt..."
Matt is featured on all of David Grisman’s Acoustic Disc quintet CDs and is a special guest on all the Garcia/Grisman CDs. "Flute Jazzâ€, an Acoustic Disc project of his own, is a collection of Matt's compositions and jazz standards in a trio setting. Matt performed with Linda Ronstadt in “Mas Canciones de Mi Padreâ€, and can be heard on Chris Isaak’s CD “Always Got Tonightâ€. Matt Eakle is the producer of “The Headwaters Project†CD, a compilation of music by different artists “inspired by or evocative of the wilderness†which raises money for non-profit groups fighting to save the California redwoods.
Bassist - Alex Baum, has performed from Osaka, Japan to Orvieto, Italy playing acoustic stand up and electric bass guitar. Alex is in the Johnny Nocturne Band & is on all 4 of their Rounder / Bullseye discs. Alex helped produce & record their Blue Bucket discs "Blues Volume" & "Good To The Damn Bone", He has also toured extensively as a charter member of Dan Hicks & the Acoustic Warriors. Working in many styles, Alex has performed or recorded with: JAZZ: Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis,"Sweets" Edison, Dave Sanborn BLUES: Pinetop Perkins, Earl King, ROCK; Zero, Bob Weir, Clarence Clemonds, John Cippolina, Steve Kimock.
Drummer - Jack Dorsey, a native New Yorker, settled in The San Francisco Bay Area in 1976. He has performed and/or recorded with artists Jimmy Witherspoon, Randy Crawford, Little Anthony, Johnny Griffin, Denise Perrier, Etta Jones, Jose Feliciano, The Coasters, and Doug Kershaw (The ragin' cajun). Jack has recorded movie and television themes in Hollywood and at George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch in Marin. For the last six years Jack has been working for The San Francisco Symphony's AIM Program bringing live music into the public schools.
Pianist - Joey Edelman, a graduate of S.F. State in piano composition has been a S.F. Bay area musician for the past 25 years. Joey has played and recorded with many Bay Area music greats including John Handy, Jules Broussard, Martin Fierro, Vince Delgado and Jose “Chepito†Areas and other members of Santana. Joey and Matt Eakle have collaborated on numerous musical projects in their hometown of San Anselmo, CA.
