THE AGENCY

About Me

BIOThe Agency is:

Azar - vocals, Allison Whild - guitar D. Clax - keys, Douglas Whatley of The Whatleys – keys, Stevie Stix - drums. The Agency has a crazy amount of musical influences. There’s a lot of Prince and the Revolution and Cyndi Lauper in the Atlanta-based group's heavy synth, pop-rock sound-coupled with an unrestrained mentality. Joined in her quest for a care free good time by guitarist Allison Whild, keyboardists Douglas Whatley and D. Clax, and drummer Stevie Stix, Azar is a versatile front-woman who can pull off both sensual vocals and seductive moves without letting either get in the way of the song. Azar is a lot like her songs, holding nothing back and pulling no punches.

How did the group come together?

After recording much of the album Azar began her search for a mix of the right talent and personality in each member of the group. First we found Stevie Stix! The heartthrob drummer who's always smiling and looking for a chance to rock out! Then came Allison Whild, who is the cool, laid back guitarist, always looking for the right lady to strum a chord for! Next, Allison brought in Dave (D.Clax), the Adidas rockin' hip-hopper who plays a mean bass key. Dave then called in Doug (who prefers to be called Douglas Whatley of the Whatley's!). Doug's the neo-nerd who, at any moment, might jump over the keyboard or snatch Azar's mic! We put him in his own danger zone on stage because you never know what he might do!

Shortly after finishing the album, the mega pop driven single “Uptown” came to the attention of music veteran Phillana Williams. Phillana had left her post as SVP of Marketing for Island Def Jam to focus on building a reputable management team and go back to the grass roots of fierce Artist Development. “Outside of the music, Artist Development is the most crucial element of any artists' career. It is their key to longevity. Record labels have gotten away from that, which is affecting the quantity of real 'Stars' in the music business. My goal is to mold talented artists with great music who can translate the music into great entertainment” she says. After hearing “Uptown” Phillana felt that this was exactly what the industry was missing! She took the group under her wing and devoted months of time into developing them into what they are today. And so became...The Agency.

What’s the story with the record?

Multi-Platinum Producer Ced Moore a.k.a The Cancer had the vision from the beginning. He wanted to create an authentic sound that would rival the creativity of the great artists of the 80's. When the music was all about the feel, the melody, and the lyric. “I feel that music is lost right now, with the exception of a few artists. It lacks the feel good vibe and innovation of the past” he says. Having worked together in the past, Azar and Ced came together and began to craft a “new-breed” sound that became the album "Tuxedo Road". On the album, Azar tells stories of longing for fame in “Bright Lights”, telling it like it is in “Like I Do”, and self-encouragement in “Show Out”, which Azar wrote to herself when deciding to go full force with her music career.

What’s the live show like?

It has a lot of pop/rock energy. It’s loud, it’s abrasive, it's unpredictable! We make an effort to sound somewhat like the record, but we focus on having a great time on stage with each other. That's what makes the audience want to watch you, if you are partying up there...they will party with you!
