About Me

To begin with, many people are confused on how to pronounce Greg’s last name. It is pronounced "why-pick". Music has been a part of Greg Wypych’s life for as long as he can remember. His talent was passed on to him by his father, Joseph Wypych, who was a jazz pianist and drummer. He also played the accordian and trumpet, which exposed Greg to many different sounds when he was young. Greg started playing his father’s drum set at the age of 6 years old, and it was immediately apparent that he had an aptitude for music. Next came the bass guitar when he was 12 years old and the bass became his instrument of choice while playing in the first of many bands. Wanting to get away from the New York music scene, when he graduated from school, he decided to move to the Rocky Mountains and called Colorado his home. Having a passion for horses and being around them since he was a boy, Greg worked on a cattle ranch and also fulfilled his dream of riding in the rodeo. To this day, he still enjoys team roping with his friends. Throughout the next several years Greg played in many bands and became fluent in many musical styles including; blues, country, bluegrass, as well as rock ’n’ roll. Greg was influenced greatly by country music and began to write his own songs in his own inimitable style. Leaving Colorado, Greg moved to Nashville where he continued to perform in songwriter’s clubs such as The Bluebird Cafe, Douglas Corner, 12th and Porter, and The Hall of Fame Club. It was at these venues that he honed his songwriting and performing abilities into the traditional style that he had been so greatly influenced by. After living in Nashville he returned to Colorado and started the band known as Final Frontier. They traveled across the western portion of the United States, performing in upscale venues and state fairs. In 1996 Greg was also a finalist in the Jimmy Dean Country Music Showdown and narrowly missed capturing the first place award in the Colorado / Wyoming combined State Finals. It took a band of seven people to beat Greg who was performing on his own with only himself on acoustic guitar for accompaniment. He was beaten by a mere 11 points and this confirmed for him the value of the material he was performing. After performing with Final Frontier for many years, Greg made the move to Austin, TX where he joined the band Les Hartman and Texas Thunder, which enabled him to travel across Texas greatly increasing his experience and visibility. After a time Greg returned to Colorado where he formed the bluegrass group The Grassadelic Jug band. Due to family issues Greg returned to the East Coast and settled in RI where he focused on his craft as a songwriter. He has played many regional coffeehouses and upscale venues turning people on to his own unique brand of traditional country music with a slight blues influence. He has recently returned to Colorado where he intends to continue writing and breaking into the publishing area of the music industry. His plans are to eventually move back to Nashville and concentrate on producing, publishing, and collaborating with other artists in the country / bluegrass genre.
