- Nelson Mandela
Founded in 2004, Orphans of Rwanda, Inc. (ORI) is a nonprofit organization that provides university scholarships to orphans and vulnerable young people in Rwanda. The 120 talented students we support have overcome tremendous challenges as a result of the 1994 genocide and diseases such as HIV/AIDS, and they are united by a desire to create a brighter future for themselves and for their country. ORI invests in these promising leaders – providing them with housing, tutoring, computer training, healthcare, and other holistic support – so that they will be prepared to create meaningful and lasting change in Rwanda.

Mailing List In a developing country such as Rwanda, a few hundred college graduates can have a tremendous impact on the entire country. Rwanda's development depends upon its ability to harness its intellectual and entrepreneurial talent. For this to be possible, all students who excel – not only the elite, but women, orphans, and other vulnerable youth – must have the opportunity to obtain a university degree and fulfill their potential. » Learn more ..

"[Our director told us] that we could study at the university. It was out of one of my dreams. I was so happy, but I could almost not believe it."

Delphine

"I am studying computer science at the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). To make progress, Rwanda needs more people who are knowledgeable about computers."

Ambroise

"We are the young and we are many, and we believe we can change Rwanda."

Julliet

"After university, I would like to set up an organization to help other girls. I want to encourage them to work hard and to tell them that they are just as capable as men."
