The Mishawaka Brewing Company opened October 19, 1992 and is locally owned and operated.On a business trip to Washington and Oregon in 1986, Tom Schmidt became enamored with the new and growing microbrewery/brewpub industry. After five years of study, planning and negotiating, Tom left his corporate position as a senior marketing manager and opened the second brew pub in Indiana.The business is located in a 9000 square foot building that formerly housed a fitness center. The interior was demolished, the swimming pool filled and a brewery/restaurant created.Tom and wife, Barbara were joined by their son Rick who brews some of the highest quality and best tasting beer in America. Restaurant operations are handled by Rick's wife Tami.The restaurant's atmosphere is created by the hunter green walls and dark stained woods used for the high back booths and divider walls. The flags of the United Kingdom hang from the high open ceilings in the main dining area. All of the decor and decorating inside the restaurant have been accomplished by Barbara.The food is best described as "Americanized International."The malted barley, hops and yeast used in our brewery are all American grown!
