Victor Rosinha is a multitalented guitar player and songwriter whose work successfully combines innovation with a sense of connectedness. It has an organic, open and warm sound. His music evokes landscapes to travel through as you listen. With his dark and resonant voice he weaves some of his own poems into the music, interacting with his fellow players. The cd features co-composer Olaf Boelsen on saxophone and flute. Boelsen plays a few outstanding solos as well as at other times providing a serene and peaceful backdrop in the music with great timing and feel. It seems the leading instruments each freely go their own way but they also meet each other again and again in the quiet parts. Rosinha is further accompanied by the remarkable top percussionist Udo Demandt and seasoned bass players Jeroen van Hoof and Toni Lameirinhas. Now and then the splendid flamenco voice of Mauricio Cesteros suddenly appears in the foreground, and other times passes in the distance here and there, just like the ‘talking’ footwork of Kika: a small piece of Spain during the journey. / Marcel Blok
