ABHCAN
www.myspace.com/
Heavy melodic prog rockers from France ABHCAN bring a distinctive flavour with their music.(if you want to know what there name means ,Abhcan is the son of Bilcelmos, harpist at Tuatha de Dannan (people of the Dana goddess) and this is from Irish and Celtic mythology! From a lot of stuff ive I listened to these guys fall into a category which I don’t think ive covered before but its great for one thing. These guys have a great sound: wide, airy and mysterious guitar work which will circle your mind giving you a musical high (Pimousse/Laurent), then accompanied by the vocals bought to you by Peggy, part of the drive and breathe of the bands sound that helps it to mature and gain extra depth and develop the intense and crisp feelings present in tracks like “woman†their latest piece of work. But what’s nice, is that the varied and skilled stick work, (Yaume) works well with the clean warm bass (Steph) and really delivers excitement and really leaves you hanging, especially in build ups and breakdowns! This produces a very strong and powerful backbone to Abhcan’s sound as it helps the music to flow with great ease. These guys have a unsullied sound and I think all the gigs over the past few years, line up changes and their demo work has paid of. Playing places like Le Gibus (Paris) with the Emergenza festival, Le Gambetta, Paris, 2006-07 Fallenfest 2, live shows at Capitol Studios (St Ouen, 93) along with other emerging bands (breaking through to semi finals ending up playing Le Trabendo (Paris) has helped mould them into a unique and bright prog act ready to break Europe into a rocking frenzy. If you haven’t heard their latest song, then have a listen to it on their myspace page. Check these guys out. A promising European prog act of the future!

FERAL
http://www.myspace.com/feralswe
Written 30th March 2008
From deep in Sweden from the dark shadows comes a bitter yet delicious mouthful of bloody death metal. The band “Feral†have been going since 2002 when they started out as two guys just mucking around till now as a full band having only gone through one member replacement .With a number of demos recorded and a mass of gigs under there belt 2007 saw them release one of their most recent dosages of death, the EP “Grave robber.†A Dark injection, of delightful “f**ked up darkness, that will send any death metal fan squealing in excitement. With Heaviness that’s like the sound of a ton of bricks crashing down on you and destroying your puny bones, mixed with raspy gruesome vocals and lyrics about Barbie dolls and a little girl breaking her legs only to be food for a corpse is enough to say you’ve got to listen to this!!!! “Grave robber†has a total of 9 tracks and from that I picked my favourite most appetising ear bleeders! The first is the opening EP title track “Grave Robber†a song about Barbie and ken dolls being your only friends. The sheer flesh ripping sound played by the guitars (Svarte and Sebbe) reflects the mood set by the lyrics. Then of course Hook (Vocals) adds the dandy flower on the corpse with his brutal raspy vox adding that extra gruesomeness. “Evil Monster†is my second choice. A meaty beast of gut warming brutality, a descriptive song about a human eating monster! Oh Yay!!! With plenty of tone and texture and nice little bits of happiness when you hear the giant monster attack all the poor little shit music lovers at the start who can complain!! “Something is Evil Tonight†will burn your eyes with unsightly images of Corpses “twisted, maimed and broken, stripped from flesh and skin†as you march through the night with the sound of a gloomy bass starting things of, lots of lovely stuff to slaughter your mind. Shrill and dirty riffs carry this song with the gut wrenching sound of the bass (Valmer) and trashy sound of marching drums (Damien) the guys of feral show their evilness! And finally the track “Howling†shows a more rocky side to band with great pace and lashings of dramatic tom fills and patterns a nice little head banger .Then through the teeth of the beast comes the sound of a nice little solo dead centre in the song! And if you love those types of songs where you sing along then don’t worry as you’ll be howling away at the end of this!! Feral prove they’ve got what it takes to be a great death metal band and if they keep going the way they are im sure with any luck they will be seeing a record deal soon! Check these guys out!
SINS OF THE FATHER
Written 30th March 2008
www.myspace.com/sinsofthefather
Ive seen these guys live and not only do they create and present interesting melodic/power metal with an ott edge, but put on show, leathers and all! Sins of the father are currently based in Burton upon Trent UK (originally Rugely based)and are made up of members Morgan (guitar),Brass(vocals),Ollie(Drums),Raz(Bass),and new to the line up Matt(Rhythm).
Sins of the father have a definitive sound with a cheesy over the top style, ego on vocals, but more importantly their passion for their music is what drives the band and so it can be seen when they play. I was at a band practice of theirs once and I watched each of the band members and i notice that they all loved what they were doing through their expressions and that’s an important element for any band to have! Their committed and hardworking and though they’ve gone through many line up changes, band name change and even a location change they continue.
The band currently has a dozen or so songs but only a few recorded. Two of them taken from their myspace include “Cold Winter Dreams†a sweet delicate acoustic song that also holds a powerful technical guitar solo that exemplifies the excitement and emotion that is present in their music, this song has a much lighter feel then some of their other songs like the second dose that is “Brother in arms.â€
The song is mainly defined but ex guitarist Owen Hill Who gave their guitar style a great boost in energy. The song i s a huge cocktail of frantic flying and whaling guitar explosions with a barrage of fills and the aggressive yet sometimes overly enthusiastic vocals that brass delivers, an element that defines SOTF. All mixed with an amount of slowed down acoustic sections that really only act as build ups to even more rocketing guitar playing this track displays portrays the wide range of the characteristics the band has. Sins of the father are currently gigging around the Burton area and news of an EP are yet unknown. If you like Power/Melodic metal with a twist of lemon and an of cut of cheese check these guys out!

XANADOO
www.myspace.com/
Back in 2006 a little “singathrash†band by the name of XANADOO was formed in Singapore. The early line up consisted
Of the following members, Zak (rhythm guitar), Mahesha (drums), Suandi (lead guitar) and Narothman (bass).Their first home recording was created titled as dome made demo and shortly after saw the guys opening metal industries 3.Line up change came and Shiva replaced Narothman on bass and Cliff from bloodstone briefly filled in for lead guitar. As a three piece the band continued and in December 2006, saw the recording of their 5 track EP “Mindless purge†which comprised of new and old music and this was released in early 2007 at a special gig night. Still as a three piece today you can hear songs from their latest installment “blood is dirt†at their myspace page!Straight trashy grooves and volatile beats combined with influences such as slayer, Metallica, Megadeth clearly breathing in their music what more could you want. These guys produce straight out thrash with no frilly bits to get in the way so if you want just want somet to purely rock to these guys are recommended! â€Blood is dirt†is a nice head thrasher with raw meaty riffs and pace that will grind your mind to pulp. Lyrics for this song surround the topic of war and its bloodshed which weaves in to the music nicely through the vocals (greatly sounding like slayer)and explosive blasts of gunfire and such that melt the end section of the track!Moving onto “man vs. fetus†again another mind grinder with Ali G making a guest appearance (ha-ha) as an opening line before it catapults into a crisp and edgy shred fest on guitar and drops into a groove fest with the drums beating the hell out of this little fetus gem, Xanadoo’s influences have great presence throughout. Moving swiftly from the head beaten first few minutes the track breaks down into a slower section with hard thumps of beats, and mixing with a nice mellow solo which carries the track back into a metal dance of. Swinging around and avoiding plummeting drums you then reach the last “mind says fucking bang your head mode†section which carries you out of the track.Xanadoo are a great little thrash outfit and I think they have potential to be a good live act that will please! Check these guys and taste a little Asian thrash metal from the other side of planet by checking their myspace page out!!!

THE HIGHLIFE SCENERY
written26th march 2008
www.myspace.com/thehighlifescenery
FROM OFFICIAL MYSPACE PAGE:
Hey hey! How's it going kids? We're The High Life Scenery.
We all met on the same Music Technology course in Burton and have come together to form an indie colletive with a little bit of pop-punk.
That's the end of our categorisation - there's too many pigeon holes form music genres these days!
Sadly James McNichol has parted company with us and on the back of that, we'd like to welcome Lee Webster
The Highlife scenery have made a quick mark in the music scence around the Burton Upon Trent and the Derby area and are already becoming a well known local indie act. With talented members who are enthusiastic and hardworking the highlife scenery are going to get far.Already booked up by many venues across the midlands their popularity is ever growing.Just by this it clearly says something.
Currently on their myspace is three tracks which include the tracks "Long lost friend", a quirky up-tempo track with heartfelt passion, clearly displayed through the guitars (lee alex and loyd)and rich vocals (loyd)the highlife scenery display there how strong their songwriting skills are, a great track in all.
Then there is "Lil miss strange" with strong characteristics it has personality of its own.Like the beautiful sound of its warm acoustics to the great tones produced by its funky bass. This a great track which will make ya want to dance around!
Then Finally there is the soft yet powerful "bedroom superstar" elegant and sophisticated, with great keys and acoustics a sweet story of love. The song shows how much balance the band has and unlike many who begin in music they already dispaly maturity and could stand high with many already established bands.
The Highlife Scenery are ready to make an impact and look promising to be one of the best indie acts in the area!!!
BLACK ROSES
written 26th march 2008
http://www.myspace.com/blackrosesderby
Over the past three years this band has gone from a 3 piece praticing in a shabby backroom of a pub, with numerous line up and style changes to finally getting somewhere playing great gigs and great music. Now a five piece with some exceptional talent, producing there own demos pratically in their backyard and displaying their broad range of song writing skills Blackroses are hitting the local music scene hard.Their style is hard to say, they combine elements of modern day metal with pop punk and twists of hardcore producing music that will rip your mind apart!!!
The Band currently have two demos up on their website which they have self produced with blackrosesrecords.More tracks however have been promised for the summer.
The two tracks they have so far are "Dreamt of April" a powerful track which to me at first thought displayed a slight touch of modern power/metal.With clean cut vocals combined with vibrant and emotional guitar work the band display a great prescence of maturity and technicality among their playing.Despite being only all 17 they play like they have been playing for years!
Their second track "Escape the design" is more of a melodic mix with great melodies and harmonies, soaring vocals, dramatic build ups and an indication that their giving it all they got!!!!The track is something you could crazy to as it has great vibes.
But i think it is important to say that Blackroses are here! With infectious music that will definately draw your attention. They have new flavours which is always good to see yet they stick to their roots. They have developed very quickly into mature young adults and as musicians and i think they have the potential with hardwork and commitment to becoming one of the next best things in their area of music.
