His voice is like no other. The depth of a seasoned professional and the style of an urban play boy Rotimi Akinosho, better known as Ro, is prone to rock the crowd and make the ladies swoon. But don’t bother making the Chris Brown and Usher comparisons because this young artist is a star in his own right.
He won over his first crowd at the young age of seven when performing at his aunt’s wedding. Since then he has performed for large groups as well as intimate settings, making the ladies scream and fellas take note. It was at the age of 15 that he took first place in Amateur Night and second place in Showcase at the Apollo in the famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem, NY. He has even showcased his skill for the rapper and CEO Jay-Z who was impressed with Ro’s showmanship and vocal ability.
At the ripe age of 19 he can appeal to the younger teen audience while his maturity, range, and lyrical talent help him woo the older generations. While most in the genre are quick to lay praise to Michael Jackson as their idol, Ro looks to the revolutionary lyrics of Bob Marley and creative genius of Stevie Wonder for inspiration. Writing songs that can appeal to people from varying backgrounds, his versatility ensures his longevity.
Raised in Maplewood, NJ the young model, actor, and vocalist made his way to the Chicago area in the fall of 2006 ready to make his presence felt and take his first love and craft of music to the next level. Ro is a student at Northwestern University where he studies theatre.
It was at NU where he met Andrew Davis II, also known as Dre-Dub, who was in the beginning phases of starting the Hustle Group. Ro spent hours writing and laying down tracks putting out a song within his first weeks on campus.
The type of buzz that is bound to catch on as soon as the world hears him.
