About Me

Laetizia, a bear upon rescue from a bile farm. Laetizia, one year later, rescued by AAF.

My name is Mary and this is an unofficial fan page for the Animals Asia Foundation. My intent is to tell my family and friends about this excellent organization.I believe that humans have eaten and used animals since the beginning of time and that is the nature of our world. However, I believe in treating animals humanely and that whatever necessary place they serve in our world, they are met with respect and compassion. Violence and ignorance always exist, but when one's country carries our violence and ignorance as its legislation, there is serious work to be done. This page is also a forum for other general animal welfare information that is personal to me.Thank You to the AAF. Chinese Dog Culls. All dogs in the city are beaten to death to "control" disease. Please help AAF work against dog culling.LIVE ANIMAL MARKETS: December 31, Animals Asia rescued 149 dogs bound for the meat market in Guangzhou, China’s dog-eating capital. This is a photo of the terrified dogs arriving in their cramped cages. Most of the dogs were house pets and have been reclaimed by their families. Dog and cat eating is legal in China. These dogs "have been spared from the terror of a four-day journey to Guangzhou with no food or water and a brutal death; dogs are often slowly beaten to death in the misguided belief that 'torture equals taste'." www.animalsasia.orgCats and dogs on their way to the meat market in China. In live animal markets, cats and dogs are killed in the most painful ways possible, like bludgeoning, live skinning, and burning; the belief being that "torture equals taste". THEREFORE, the consumption of cats and dogs in Asian countries is not just a matter of cultural difference. The organized torture of animals in any civilization is CRIMINAL. Agonizing deaths await these animals. Their faces tell the story of every cat smashed to the ground to writhe in agony, and every dog whose snout is crushed, and every animal that meets a horrific end we will not witness. WE CAN IGNORE THIS NO LONGER. Animals going to a live animal market. "The markets are a mess of tangled limbs and broken bones, dying puppies and desperate wildlife. The sounds and sights are horrifying, whilst the stench of filth and disease is overwhelming. Blood, guts and excrement cover the floor as animals are carelessly butchered, often with deliberate cruelty, for little more than human greed. Is it any wonder that a disease such as SARS incubated in such conditions?" -Jill Robinson, AAFDogs culled from the street and taken to market in pig cages. A leopard captured for sale at a live animal market. Both common and endangered animals are cruelly slaughtered for consumption, OFTEN ONLY TO PROVE WEALTH OR SOCIAL STATUS. Fundamental to dog and cat eating: cruelty is deliberate and slaughter methods are designed to intensify and prolong suffering. When torture is not deliberate, killing methods are still horrificaly cruel. Cats and dogs are bludgeoned over the head, stabbed in the neck or groin, electrocuted, hung, or boiled alive.
