About Me

Lowrider Magazine Article - October 2003The Father and son team that took lowriding to a whole new level.LeeRoy and Kenny Gonzales are a father and son team that you've probably heard of before. These two took Kenny's truck and made it into one of the more popular trucks in Lowrider Magazine history. "Punch 84", as the Chevy Silverado truck is called, graced the pages of Lowrider and many other mags, and was also featured in ads for Rockford Fosgate's "Punch" speaker series.LeeRoy is one OG kind of guy working with Lowrider in the early days judging and helping out Larry Gonzalez and Alberto Lopez any way that he could. LeeRoy helped in the development of quite a few rules, like limiting a car to three world titles in a row before four major mods have to be done.In 1989, they opened their shop Punch 84, specializing in building and customizing vehicles. LeeRoy and Kenny have certainly had their share of firsts in the family and Punch 84 was innovative in a number of ways. The capping of A-arms, chroming the frame and things that we now take for granted. Also on the Gonzales' list is the first lowrider at the Petersen Automotive Museum, and the first lowrider to win its class and Best of Show at the Oakland Roaster Show. They have inspired many people in lowriding, which is evident by the amount of people who ask about the truck and its whereabouts. But as in life, there are bumps and LeeRoy and Kenny have had hit a few. There have been a few unfortunate instances when they didn't get the credit that they were due. Although they built "The Rocket", a popular hot-rod owned by Dean Bryant, when the car was featured in Hot Rod Magazine's July 2002 issue, LeeRoy and Kenny's names were nowhere to be found. The father and son team stay strong with the backing of the family. Vehicles like "Strictly Business" '70 Olds Cutlass Supreme (a three-time Lowrider of the Year Champion), "Funky 51" Chevy Deluxe and "The Krush" '89 Mazda B2200 are among those built by the Gonzales Family. The Gonzales Familia has done just about everything that there is to do in the world of lowriding from building and showing cars to being head judges for LRM Tour events. LeeRoy and Kenny have raised the game and through it all they continue to love what they do and have fun with it, so to them we give props and praise.
