Green Revolution

About Me

Green Revolution was an experimental, futuristic, free, electronic jazz group, established in 1984 by Voytek Konikiewicz. The original lineup was a quartet, however after its premiere concerts at International Meetings of Street Theatre 1984 there were a few more, leading to two basic incarnations:
GR v.1
This lineup recorded the LP with a soundtrack for the film " Na calosc " (All The Way"), released by Poljazz in 1986 and sold in a few dozen thousands of copies.
GR v.2
This lineup recorded an unreleased session for Polish Radio Channel 2 .
Never mind a dark shade of post-marshall law reality in Poland and rejection by the mainstream predominated jazz establishment, the band managed succesfully by Edwin Malecki and led by visionary and experimenting keyboardist and composer/producer, broke the limits of jazz idiom and, which is now more evident, preceeded world wave of acid & hip hop jazz, mixing freely ethno, free jazz, funk, hip hop, dub and even...punk rock.
An extensive drum machine programming, interactive use of a huge MIDI controlled synthesizer & module system, ecstatic solos of keyboards, electronically transformed trumpet and saxophone, profound vocals, trance of ethnic drums ( check JC 20 - a suite in memory of John Coltrane ), onomatopoeic rap of an avantgarde poetry (Miron Bialoszewski) as well as deep and creative mixing by Wojtek Przybylski and the leader made the sound of Green Revolution unique and fresh. Heavy, dark bass riffs on detuned bass guitar with metal like guitar solos appeared here ( check "Niebieska apokalipsa" ) - years before Laswell’s experiments in 90- ties!!!
The most mature and creative recordings of the group were done for Polish Radio channel 2 and became sensation shortly after being presented on air - also abroad, when brought by British manager Michael Stoneman to English label - Virgin. Unfortunately, it was not possible to overcome red tape in the rotting communist state’s reality of that time and, despite a great interest, the session has not been released until now.
Finding no support or even a tolerance and facing numerous problems, the group was dismissed/suspended in early 90-ties by the leader who took on composing other genres of music such as ambient, piano solo, contemporary classical and film then... ____________________________________________________________ __________ TRACK INFO
