3RD EYE OPEN AIN'T BREAK UP FOOLZ!!!!!!!!!!!!The search for truth in its highest form is a relentless task that requires a tremendous amount of humility, courage, and passion. On the beautiful Detroit morning of May 19th, 2002, on the birthday of Malcolm X, and in the spirit of the Last Poets, seven young men and women boldly joined to take on that search together. The result is a poetry collective, consisting of poets, activists, musicians, and community servants, who go by the name of 3rd Eye Open. Although there were originally seven members, 3rd Eye Open currently consists of Righteous Knowledge Allah, Ms. Reyonna, Tiffanni, hardCore, and DJ Slo Poke, hailing from St. Louis, Chicago, Detroit, and Venezuela respectively. The sound is an urban fusion of words and rhythms weaved together to resonate loud as the voice of change. The mission is to motivate, elevate, and educate the people, in an effort to move them from a place of dysfunction, towards a place of beauty, happiness, and unity. The take away, is life changing. Die-hard supporters of 3rd Eye Open continue to grow in number, and sing their praises in countries all over the world. And Detroit, the place the group calls home, holds them in high regards as champions of the people. 3rd Eye Open is an independent group, self-owned and self maintained, but they continue to make sure the sound of the underground won’t go unheard. You can find 3rd Eye Open on stages all over the country. From university campuses to grass roots community events, political rallies, nightclubs, and juvenile homes. The group’s effort is relentless. And although they all hold down full time jobs, they’ve created quite a buzz in their short existence, sharing stages with the likes of The Last Poets, Amiri Baraka, Chuck D, Ossie Davis, KRS-One, Afeni Shakur, Common, Erykha Badu, Dwele, Ice T, and ded prez. In 2003, they dropped their debut album, “And Then There Was...â€, following it up in 2004 with “Slo Poke Presents...The 3rd Eye Open Mixtapeâ€, the first spoken word poetry mixtape ever. New projects and opportunities for the group are brewing as we speak, so keep a look out, and prepare, to have your third eye, opened!
