Rocket City Wreckaz started off in 1999. The original group consisted of Yung J da UV Ray and E-Class da Texas Tax. The group members met in highschool and freestyled for everyone to hear on the back of the school bus daily, either beating on the seats or with walkman's and speakers. Yung J began hooking up with older artist trying to make it in his Houston neighorhood, Hiram Clarke. Without much success or funds his dreams were put on hold. In tenth grade, Yung J asked his best friend E-class to form a group and put together a demo. The group finished a 16 song cassette recorded on a Karaoke machine given to them by their Sophomore English Teacher, and mailed it off to all the record labels in the Houston area. Within a week they got a call from Laura and D-Wreck of Wreckshop Records. They became interns for the record label until Yung J was in a devastating car accident that put the Rocket City Wreckaz at a short standstill. After, both group members began to work minimum wage jobs to purchase studio equipment. They continued to make music and flooded their school, B.T. Washington, with cassettes and finally cd's along with guest appearances from other young artists. Eventually the two begin to collab with other groups at the schoolhouse, sold mixtapes, performed at talent shows, and showcases. As the other groups decided to take the rap game on head first, the Rocket City Wreckaz decided to attend college to fund their dreams of being a distinct new genre to the game; while remaining totally INDEPENDENT. Now those same dreams have turned into reality and the newer generation is introduced.....ILL PHIL....DRE SKOOL....AND STR8 FACT$ aka Kiel...along with new artist including R&B and Country. Adding to the Country Rap Genre created in these parts by Artist like TowDown, UGK, Hawk, SUC and SWISHAHOUSE just to name a few. Thanks to those artist for opening the door!
