Gwyn Morgan Davies, Adam Gorman, Chris Spencer and Steve Ballinger will tell you that were all brothers with different mothers. That outlook permeates everything The Brothers lay their hands to, whether its composing some of the most stick-with-you melodies to be found east of a Beatle, or engraving lines of pure pop poetry so deep into your waiting heart that youll seriously consider bringing charges for invasion of privacy.Biographical details are in short supply, and lets face it, do you care where they went to school or how tall they are? Most of the stuff youll need to know about The Brothers follows thus: There are four of them. They started as a band while sharing a Victorian mansion in Manchester. Together in splendid disorder, the front room draped in exotic haberdashery and a mixing desk, and transformed into an alchemists cave where glittering tunes were forged from the dust of half forgotten dreams. To pay the rent, they worked the dayjob as a four-piece, cooking in the kitchen of the bar where they also hosted their own weekly open mike night. They get invitations. Lots. Come over the road to the BBC, to be on the television. Come over to The Republic of Georgia, to play at a pro-democracy rally. Release an album in Japan. Come down to Glastonbury, to do a Festival Radio session, and a Crew party. Recently, legendary US producer Kim Fowley has approached the band with a view to working together. Their music has been used for the soundtrack of a cult surfing video, and two Brothers tracks are slated to appear in a movie currently in production in Hollywood. The Brothers live (at the moment) in Manchester, which is in the North of England though they have spent much time in Pembrokeshire, which is in the South of Wales. Two of the group are from the north of Manchester, one from the Wirral and one from Pembrokeshire, which is aforementioned. Together and separately, they have an interesting past and a much more interesting future. The album Daffodils and Devils is newly released on Japanese label Quince Records (QRCP 30).Contact us by email at
