A Beautiful Blend of Folk Pop

About Me

'In a world where the music industry serves up prepacked homogenised market driven product, it warms the soul to know artists like Martyna are unaffected by the machine' - Big George - BBC Three Counties.Since releasing her self financed debut EP ‘Spark’ back in 2005, Martyna’s music has been causing a stir on the acoustic scene. A piano based singer-songwriter with a remarkable talent for creating beautifully crafted songs that are both memorable and unique, Martyna is gaining a strong reputation as one to watch in the music world. It was at age six that Martyna sat down at her first piano and began composing without ever having had a single lesson. By 13 she had written and performed her first full-length song 'Someone Else's Lover' which despite raising a few eyebrows, marked her as a promising talent. She then went on to study Expressive English to degree level however her passion for music was always at the forefront of her mind. After graduating in 2003, she returned home to learn her craft as a songwriter and made her first solo performance at the Wolverton Acoustic Club. Since then her career has spiralled and Martyna has written and released two independent recordings and performed regularly all over the UK. Her first release ‘Spark’ in February 2005 sold out in just two months after receiving high praise reviews from both local and national press and is continuing to produce positive feedback from publishers and radio stations alike. A number of tracks have also been making waves on the internet with 'Heroes' staying in the Mp3Songs Top 100 for 5 months and also soaring to number 1 along with 'Sitting Pretty' on the Soundclick Acoustic Download Charts. The follow up release, a full length album entitled ‘Little Wings’ in early 2006 has seen similar success with tracks receiving growing interest and airplay from radio stations and internet sites. Martyna was also selected in 2006 as the first featured artist on Big George’s ‘Business of Sound’, a radio show dedicated to new talent for the BBC. This led to further appearances on local radio including a live performance on Jeremy Sallis’ Audio Files, tracks from which were selected to appear on a BBC CD. Having also recently been selected for the Leverhulme Artist Programme run by the acclaimed Stables, founded by Cleo Laine and John Dankworth, Martyna has been working with such influential talents as Boo Hewerdine, David Knopfler, Cara Dillon and Sam Lakeman. Highlights or 2006 include headlining the Acoustic Stage at Parklife Festival and appearing on both the BBC Stage and the Willow Stage at the popular Rhythms of The World Festival.2007 sees Martyna embark on her first UK Tour to promote the new EP ‘The Trouble With Me’.
