When Jackson VanHorn isn't playing drums for the TV Ghost franchise, he apparently spends his time recording dark and down folk songs in the strange land of Indiana. The results are sublimely stunning. 6 songs that span almost exactly 20 minutes and leave you wanting more! "Behind the Walls" kicks off the tape with a plodding lonesome guitar riff that takes you down to the depths to find Jackson's unique voice swirling around you at all times. The vibe only intensifies from there! There is an air of familiarity running through all these tunes yet they remain completely original at the same time. The third installment in the Black Plague in Mono series finds resident synth twiddler Dead Luke exploring a more psychedelic side of things. The synths are more or less still there, but now on some songs they are accompanied by psyched out washes of guitar, 60s-esque organ leads, and even a sitar. The song "Pills" begins as a quiet, dark, mumble-out and builds into a pounding raga like shredder! The song "Dusty Sweet" even features a performance from former Dead Hooker, Howlin' Trav, on vocals. Interesting things for sure in the year of dying Dead Luke.

Hanging Coffins member Cade returns on this cassette with his own demented project THE ELKS. Clocking in 18 songs in just under 30 minutes, The Elks assault you with seriously intense No Wave punk blasts only to creep you out in the next minute with strange, plodding, instrumentals, and one of the weirdest gospel songs I have ever heard. Brand new tape from Floridian TEEPEE and Jerkwave's first release of 09! This is the second offering from the mysterious Teepee for the Jerkwave label and even more insane then the first! Killer tunes in a niche that he is carving all on his own. I can't think of anyway to describe it other than DRONEPUNK. 9 raw tunes that range from in your face to laid back and almost "pretty." From the ascending riff and sneering vocals of "Gina Enough" to the at times almost sitar-like guitar lines and drone of "The Taker" which are inversely represented by their counterparts such as the winded fidgety drum out "Mindanao" and warm flowing "Muwa." Each song more different than the last, the entire cassette takes on a dream like quality becoming more and more surreal. Scratchy, popping drum beats collide with distorted keyboards, that lead into swirling guitar drones and echoed out drum blasts and back again. Jerkwave Tapes is incredibly pleased to announce the debut release from Miami's TeePee! This cassette is titled "SS Norway" after a cruise ship Mr. TP's uncle worked on in the late 80's. The story unfolds that a friend of the uncle had recurring dreams in which a white spirit told of a hidden treasure in the boiler room of the ship. Attempts were made to reach the treasure but the boiler proved too hot for anyone to successfully seek the treasure. Several years later 8 people were killed in a mysterious explosion in the same boiler room. The 8 songs on the tape are for those 8 people. Using a wide variety of instruments and mixing elements of punk, new wave, drone, noise, and jazz, TeePee taps into a sound that is eclectic, mind melting and completely original. With that in mind, Jerkwave Tapes is proud to present the debut release from central Wisconsin's own folk wunderkind, Max Elliott. Taking a few cues from Wild Man Fischer, Leadbelly, and Pete Seeger, Max yarns his own original tales about life's hardships for the working man, the shortcomings of religion, and the inevitability of death, as well as putting his own twist on some classic folk staples. Using only guitar, the occasional harmonica and drum, and his tremendously unique voice, his songs are sure to stir something within you. Recommended for fans of the folk compilations on Mississippi. You'll hear parts resembling "Confusion is Sex" era Sonic Youth if it were coupled with Neil Young's soundtrack to "Dead Man." Cassette version of one of the front runners for album of 08! The Pink Noise seemingly materialized out of nowhere with this debut album. Drawing comparisons to Suicide, Jan Hammer, John Carpenter, and other such disparate acts, "Dream Code" has been hailed by many critics as their "most played" LP of the year. Snobbery praise aside, one only needs to hear the first 30 seconds of "The Put On" with its toy drum beat, and simple keyboard riffs over a choppy synth bass line to be drawn completely in. And it only gets better from there on out. This album sounds amazing on tape as well since to me it always sounded like it was coming out of a boombox anyway. Might as well make it a reality. Twelve all new songs from bedroom punk wizard NICE FACE! If the "Thing In My Head" 7" on Sacred Bones whet your whistle, this thing should have you salivating buckets. This release also finds Mr. Face tackling even more styles with full force. Take the damaged surf licks of "Thin Skin" and "Nunfight." Or you could swear that the riff from "Shitstorm Trooper" was emanating from the inside of John Carpenter's brain circa 1978, that is until the whole thing melts into a paranoid mess halfway through. It also features some of the best guitar work on an album in recent memory.
