About Me

MySpace Layouts from PimpTags.comBehind the scene and History of “All American Dog Inc.”Part 1: The day I met my All American Dog.I had been working at an animal hospital/shelter located in Brookline, Mass for about two months. Well it was just about the end of my shift and I was going out back to fill up a mop bucket. This also happens to be the area that they kept the hospitalized pets. Now I had walked into this back room numerous times before, with the dogs trying there best to grab my attention. It wasn’t easy to ignore them, but sometimes you had to be tough. Well on this particular night as soon as I opened the door, this little puppy was sounding off. At first I walked in to go about my business, but this little creature was making sounds that I’ve never heard before. They were anything but cute; actually the noise this puppy was making was quite annoying. It was a loud high-pitched screeching sound. Let’s put it this way, it was irritating enough to make me turn and see who was making this god awful sound. I came upon a ten week female Shepard cross puppy. As I put my finger in the cage of this troubled puppy, she stopped barking and licked my finger. As she was licking my finger, I noticed her card read she was a stray. This puppy was moved in this area, because she was showing symptoms of “Kennel Cough”. Although Kennel Cough is a treatable illness, often the strays don’t get priority medical care, because it can get pretty expensive. I had seen these circumstances before and it usually doesn’t look good for the strays. Being a Professional you have to learn to not get attached. (Yeah Right) Even though I knew better, I opened the cage door and this puppy dove into my arms and immediately wrapped her head around the back of my neck. I thought at this point wow what a sweet little puppy. Little did I know I was holding my new best friend? I walked to the front to show the girls in the reception area, how affectionate this puppy was with me. Needless to say after seeing this, the girls talked me into taking her home for one night. At this time I was living with my father and he was strongly against having another dog in the house. I assured him it was just for one night, to give the puppy sometime out of the hospital. The whole night she was on her best behavior, I took her out before I went to bed and then put her in her crate. This little thing slept peacefully through out the night. We woke up the next morning and I took her out to do her business. Well it was still too early to get up for work, so we took a nap on the couch. She curled up next to my head. My father came down stairs to wake me up in his normal abrupt fashion. She jumped up and barked. For a ten-week-puppy she looked pretty ferrous. (Woke me right up!) I think it even startled my dad a little. As funny as it was, that moment touched me. My father was a little annoyed, but I could see she was ready to protect me. I laughed and thought how sweet. Today my father is one of her favorite people in the world. My dad can laugh about it now too! As I drove to work that morning, she was on my lap, leaning against my chest, still with her head wrapped around the back of my neck. As I was patting her I said out loud “I’m going to call you Cody”. Yes it was just the two of us in the car and I was talking to a dog. She agreed with a nudge and this I would have to say is when she became my dog. Check my blogs for part 2 and 3.
