Jermaine Jackson

About Me

A truly under-rated figure in contemporary R&B music, Jermaine Jackson began a successful solo career concurrent to his tenure in The Jackson 5, and hit the Top 10 of the Billboard Pop singles chart with the 1972 Shep and the Limelites cover "Daddy's Home". When The Jackson 5 left Motown in 1975, Jermaine left the group and stayed at Motown, concentrating on his solo career. From 1972 to 1991, he released 13 solo albums.

Jackson was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for his 1980 album Let's Get Serious. He had several US Billboard Hot 100 hits throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including "That's How Love Goes" (peaking at 46), "Daddy's Home" (peaking at 9), "Let's Be Young Tonight" (55), "Let's Get Serious" (9), "You're Supposed To Keep Your Love For Me" (34), "You Like Me Don't You" (50), "I'm Just Too Shy" (60), "Let Me Tickle Your Fancy" (18), "Dynamite" (15), "Do What You Do" (13), "When The Rain Begins To Fall" (54), "Closest Thing To Perfect" (67), "I Think It's Love" (16), and "Do You Remember Me" (71). In 1989, the title track for his album "Don't Take It Personal" peaked at 62 on the Hot 100 pop chart, though it hit no. 1 on the R&B chart. Altogether, on the US Top 100 R&B chart he charted 27 different singles.

In the UK, Jermaine had three hit singles: "Let's Get Serious" (8), "Burnin' Hot" (32), and "Do What You Do" (6), plus "You Like Me Don't You" (41).

In the early 90's, he produced the TV miniseries "The Jacksons: An American Dream." In the series, Jermaine's role was played by his son Jermaine Jr.

In 2007, he appeared on the UK version of the TV series "Big Brother." This resulted in the release of the compilation "Big Brother Jermaine- The Jermaine Jackson Collection." In 2008, he appeared on the reality show "Gone Country 2."

On July 7, 2009, Jermaine performed Smile at Michael Jackson's memorial service in Los Angeles. This performance has since been made available on iTunes.

A new 6-part reality show on The Jacksons, including Jermaine, is scheduled to premiere on A&E in December 2009.
