Guitarist and pianist Marcelo Imai has been studying, under guidance of Professor Doctor Gisele Nogueira, the baroque and classic periods, and has transcribed masterpieces of J.S. Bach such as Chaconne BWV 1004 and Variations Goldberg BWV 988 for guitar, using resources from the Rhetoric and the Doctrine of the Affections. His interpretation is based on the language of finger chords which is one of the characteristics of the periods he studies.
Born in Lins, he started studying piano at the age of six and guitar at the age of seven, and later graduated from Lins Conservatory of Music. He has taken part in many national and international festivals such as the 32nd International Winter Festival in Campos do Jordão, SP, the 8th Guitar International Festival in Mexico, ANNPOM 2007 and others. He was a finalist in the contest “Young Soloists” in the 4th Week of Music of Ouro Branco, MG and was ranked to the semifinals in the 1st International Guitar Competition in Culiacán, Mexico.
He has taken part in Master Classes with the brilliant pianist Martine Joste (France,2005), Jacques Morelenbaum and guitarists as: Costas Cotsiolis (Greek), Ricardo Gallén (Spain), Fabio Zanon, Mario Ulloa (Costa Rica), José Rastelli, and others. He's also had expert guidance from Valerie Albright (USA), Cláudio Richerme, Achille Pichi e Martha Herr (EUA).
Marcelo Imai is currently a member of São Paulo State University Guitar Trio, coordinated by Giacomo Bartoloni. He is also a fourth-year undergraduate at UNESP (São Paulo State University) Institute of Arts, under expert guidance of Professor Gisela Nogueira.

Marcelo Imai, violonista e pianista, vem realizando nesses últimos anos, sob a orientação da Prof.(a) Dra. Gisela Nogueira, estudos sobre a execução e a interpretação do período barroco e clássico transcrevendo, para o violão, obras primas de J.S.Bach como a Chaconne BWV 1004 e as Variations Goldberg BWV 988, utilizando recursos como o da retórica e da teoria dos afetos. Sua interpretação baseia-se através da linguagem dos instrumentos de cordas dedilhadas de época, dando assim, uma notória caracterização de estilo do período.
Nascido em Lins, iniciou seus estudos musicais aos 6 anos de idade no piano e aos 7 anos no violão, formando-se no Conservatório Musical de Lins. Tem participado em diversos festivais nacionais e internacionais como 32° Festival Internacional de Inverno de Campos do Jordão, 8° Festival Internacional de Guitarra / México, ANNPOM 2007, dentre outros. Finalista do “Jovens Solistas” / 4° Semana da Musica de Ouro Branco, foi classificado para disputar as provas finais do 1st. International Guitar Competition na cidade de Culiacán, México. Participou de master classes com a brilhante pianista Martine Joste (França / 2005), Jacques Morelenbaum e renomados violonistas como: Costas Cotsiolis (Grécia), Ricardo Gallén (Espanha), Fabio Zanon, Mario Ulloa (Costa Rica), José Rastelli, entre outros. Ainda recebeu orientações de Valerie Albright (EUA), Cláudio Richerme, Achille Pichi e Martha Herr (EUA).
Atualmente integra o São Paulo State University Guitar Trio (Trio Unesp de Violões) coordenado por Giacomo Bartoloni e cursa o 4° ano de bacharelado no Instituto de Artes/UNESP sob a orientação da professora Gisela Nogueira.
