I am here for Friends

About Me

It's a shame that no one (especially in the UK) can openly speak of what bothers me so much without being labelled 'cheesy' or a 'nutter'. If you're one of those jackasses that think I'm some kind of weirdo (not meaning to sound rude or paranoid) for being open about my passion on a charity issue then thanks for the compliment (weirdo). Being so prioritised and having adapted to a life of luxury can often give people (too many in wealthy society) the idea that poverty's not our problem but is it? Before you wonder why the f*** is she doing this? What the f*** is it supposed to do? Or whatever s*** you might be thinking/saying lol, it's just me stating the truth that you may or may not know, and for me to make as much of an effort as I can as an individual (a rather small one :P) to fight what too many don't give a f*** about (sorry about all the swearing but trust me I am usually a refined lady). No I don't think I'm a saint but yea I'm an annoying peace-mongrel (that's better than being a war-mongrel!) I'm not a pot-smoking hippy or a cheesy Christian either, just one of those 'weirdos' who cares... It’s amazing how contrasting the word ‘luck’ can be. Throughout the globe there's such a variety, people live in extremes of poverty with not even a daily meal to partly satisfy their stomachs, while there are people splashing their ‘hard earned’ cash on designer furniture, underwear etc and perhaps the saddest thing is, is how both contrasting worlds are so ignorant to each other. Of course people in the 'west' have got far more important things to think about i.e. planning their next trip abroad and deciding what hairstyle to get at the salon, but if these kinds of priorities are going to continue, how can we possibly ever banish poverty? There’s no use in boring you with the facts that you probably already know and don’t really s*** yourselves about either, but this is something that cannot be ignored and sometimes people like us need to pull our heads out of our arses. I don’t care what anyone says child poverty is the biggest preventable dilemma in the human world. Of course it’s just a part of humanity that our minds are never satisfied with whatever we may have and we never seem to get enough. In places such as the USA, Australia and the UK especially, too many things (without sounding corny) are taken for granted. Free health care and council housing, which even most other richer countries don’t have, free education, job-centers, state pensions, unemployment, single-parent and disability benefits, in a few years we’ll probably even have free arse-wipers. People here just have no right to complain about the standards of living when all our needs (and more) are supplied. I mean most people will say at some point, 'think of the starving children in Africa or Asia,' but how many of these people would regularly give or ever have given a penny to? Of course it’s too late now for our generation to stop this, for over a time period, which has already been proved, want (regardless of how petty it might be) eventually becomes need. Now this may sound naive but if we were to raise more awareness on the ‘other world’ and teach our future generations to think somewhat differently, within the next century extreme poverty could well become a thing of the past. I feel that our generation is the first generation that is really able to provoke tangible changes for we have the ideas, the resources, we have the internet and so many tools that maybe our parents and grandparents didn’t have. There are so many ways to stop all this s*** from happening, I've done voluntary work for Oxfam like many people who mean what they say, give small donations to these charities (not necessarily sponsor a kid), give your unwanted stuff (that's still good :P) away to charity stores that can make more use of it than your bin :P. There's also these sites (all you have to do is click daily): www.hungersite.com, www.childhealthcaresite.com, www.literacysite.com. You may think I'm cheesy, crazy or even fake but you can't think I'm wrong! Don't just say you agree with me because that's not enough, I expect you to agree with me (maybe even admire) but I don't expect you to put your agreement into action, please proove me wrong...
