About Me

I'm a wife, mom, grandma, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, ex, & have started all over again raising my grandkids. I'm old-fashioned, independent, opinionated, & open-minded. I forgive, but I don't forget. I have the most giving heart & the biggest mouth - both faults, but those who know me well understand they go hand-in-hand. I believe in discipline, not punishment. It takes a village, but parents must own up to the responsibility of their own children. I describe myself as a quirky cross between Sally Field sweetness & strength, and Roseanne Barr reality. I've been told I'm 'formidable'...I like that!

Finding a "soul-mate" implies a life through eternity; I don't know if that's possible, but it feels like I've known my husband forever. Chris is a good man; everything to me, & to my kids more a dad than step-father. And such a grandpa...wow! He's a selfless man who knows & shows that love is unconditional, every single day.

Being the parent of adult & almost-adult kids is a tougher job than a houseful of newborns! Along with the struggles come new joys, wonders, tears, adventures, & a wonderful look at the world through their eyes & opinions. All three are talented, loving, & full of dreams, though different as night & day. They bicker, stumble, sometimes fall, & don't listen to good advice, but always rebound, rebuild, & know we are behind them. They are the greatest gift I have ever received & the reason God makes the sun rise.

Just as Hallmark can sometimes say it better, music & lyrics can tell the story of our lives. We aren't even aware of what's inside until our heart hears the melody; then we become flooded with every possible emotion. We laugh, we cry, we curse, we are inspired, & we embrace another day.
Technology frustrates me, or perhaps it's my own lack of knowledge that's got me so annoyed. A websight is a work of art, but it's sucess is dependant upon the cooperation of the internet gremlin, a sneaky sort of fellow who can erase, hack, spam, phish, delete, & otherwise make your well thought words & intricate graphics fall into the great abyss that is the cyberspace toilet at any moment. This is probabaly the good beginning for another blog...

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

God..."Do you know what's going on down here?"
Mother Teresa..."How did you do it?"
Martin Luther..."What compelled you to share?"
Mary Magdelin..."Just between us girls, did you...?"
Mother Earth, Father Time, & David the Gnome..."Are any of you ready to scream yet?"
My deceased family & friends..."Are you happy?"...which brings me back to God. So goes the circle of life.

My Blog

An Equitable Division in the Labor of Love

My frustration level about this has been building for days; I have convinced myself that's it's not my problem and I shouldn't be concerned, but it keeps worming it's way to the forefront. I have foun...

Building the world, invisibly

I’m invisible. It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I’m on the phone and ask to be taken to the st...

How they leave the nest

Its Course A sense of foreboding, the mother, has she - Her fledgling stands upon the edge of home, perched to hurl itself into peril. Nature over nurture takes its course. A barely feathered flailing...

Blessed winter silence

Spring is here, no doubt about it, & with it comes Summer & with that then early Fall. It’s not the warmer temperatures, the faint mist of green on the trees, the sweet melodic pre-dawn ...

The price of salvation

How badly do YOU want to get into heaven? What would you give? What are you willing to pay? Would you sell your soul to the devil? These seemingly ridiculous questions are bombarded upon our conscienc...

Sucks to fry bacon on a holiday

If I gotta fry bacon on Easter morning the bunny is gonna get it. Seriously, I can boil eggs without much effort, they don’t really require my attention to come out OK. It’s Easter... the ...

Miss Manners answers to ME!

I am a stickler for manners, especially at the table. Actually, I border on being anal retentive about it but it’s one of the few things that absolutely drives me CRAZY! I’m not talking ab...

Baseball, bratwurst, apple strudel, and Buick

The score is 10-0, bottom of the 4th. No problem, the team’s homerun king is at bat. It happens to be my brother, which is actually a bad thing. Oh, not because he’s related, just because ...

The apple cake doesn’t fall far from the tree

How many times in your life have you said, "I will never say that to my kids", only to hear it come spilling out the minute they’re born? Or, "My kids would never do that", only to find out ten ...
