God Forgives...I Don't!!!IA huge, rather unattractive man, Marv suffers from a mental condition which leaves him 'confused', suffering from short-term memory lost and hallucinations. His parole officer provides him with pills which seem to control his condition to some degree. Marv has a strong code of ethics, believing that people should act and be treated in a certain way. When someone does something that runs across his beliefs, he is prone to very violent outbursts. Although known to various girls throughout Old Town, Marv has never had sex until he is approached by Goldie who, unbeknownst to Marv, is on the run and looking for someone to protect her. When he wakes up the next morning, Goldie is dead and his has been framed for her murder. Outraged, Marv sets about tracking down Goldie's real killer, cutting a path through Sin City until he finds Kevin, a cannibal and serial killer, who is sheltering on the Roark family farm. Attempting to kill Kevin, Marv is captured and discovers that Lucille, his parole officer has also been aducted by Kevin.Ava LordOne of Sin City's famous beauties, Ava Lord once broke Dwight McCarthy's heart. Almost four years later, now married, she arranges to meet him in Kadie's where she tells him that her husband is making her life a living hell. Although Dwight turns her down, he decides to see for himself if her claims are true and is caught trespassing on the Lord estate and beaten. When he returns home, she is there waiting for him and convinces him that she still loves him. After they have sex, Manute arrives, beating Dwight and driving off with Ava. A short time later, Dwight kills her husband, much to her delight. Ava reveals that she's set Dwight up, that she doesn't love him and was just using him to kill her husband so that she would inherit his whole estate. She then has Dwight brutally beaten. When Dwight comes back, some time later, she attempts to convince him that Manute was actually behind the whole plan and had manipulated her. However, Dwight sees through her lies and kills her.BeckyA young prostitute in Old Town, it is Becky that Jackie-Boy harasses leading to his death. Becky worked as a spy for The Colonel, one of the crime lords of Sin City, she delivers Old Town right into his hands. Later, trying to justify her actions to Gail, she says that she never wanted her mother to find out what she did and that the Colonel had offered her a new life and lots of money. Becky is killed shortly thereafter by the Colonel's men, having served her purpose.Dwight McCarthyAs a youngster, Dwight was known for being an wild alcoholic, but he straightened up and went clean, falling in love with Ava Lord who went on to break his heart. Almost four years later, now married, she arranged to meet him in Kadie's. In Kadie's, Ava begs Dwight to take her back, telling him that her husband, Damien Lord, has made her life a living hell. Although Dwight turns her down, he still has feelings for her and so decides to see if her claims are true. He is caught trespassing on the Lord's estate and is beaten by Manute. When he returns home, Ava is waiting for him, naked, and the pair have sex. Shortly afterwards, Manute bursts in, beating Dwight again and pushing him out the window, before driving off with Ava. Dwight approaches Marv and asks for his help in rescuing Ava from her husband. When Dwight finds Damien, he kills him only to discover that Ava has been stringing him along and has set him up to kill her husband so that she could inherit his riches. She shoots Dwight multiple times and leaves him for dead, but Marv manages to get him to safety. Dwight heads for Old Town where he is reunited with his ex-lover Gail. The girls arrange for his recovery and provide him with a new face. Accompanied by Gail and Miho, he enacts his revenge on Ava, killing her. Later, Dwight leads a cop, Jackie-Boy, into Old Town, where he is murdered. Knowing that he will be to blame if the truce between the girls of Old Town and the police falls to pieces, Dwight sets off to dispose of the body in the tar pits. On the way he is attacked by Irish mercenaries who steal Jackie-Boy's head. With the help of Miho, he kills them all, retrieving the head, only to discover that Gail has been taken hostage. He agrees to trade the head for Gail, but instead ambushes the kidnappers, leaving them to be slaughtered by the girls of Old Town. Dwight once rescued Miho from some slave traders and the pair often work together on behalf Gail and the rest of Old Town.GailOne of the leaders in Old Town, Gail is a prostitute and a dominatrix, much taken to wearing bondage wear. Six feet tall and fearless, she is often on the front line of protecting the girls of Old Town. She was, at some point, Dwight McCarthy's lover and still seems to harbour some feelings for him, being instrumental in saving his life after he was shot and left for dead by Ava Lord.Goldie and WendyIdentical twins, Goldie & Wendy control Old Town with a fist of iron. When Goldie is killed by Kevin, Wendy is left to take care of business by herself, her first point of action being to punish her sisters killer. Mistakenly believing this to be Marv, she runs him over with her car and later beats him. When she finally realises the truth behind her sisters death, Wendy lets Marv go ahead with his plan to kill Kevin, helping him to gather the tools he will need.Jack Rafferty'Iron Jack' Rafferty aka Jackie-Boy, a dirty member of Sin City's police force, Rafferty is a drunk and a bully. One night he forces his way into his ex-girlfriends apartment, verbally and physically abusing her while her new boyfriend, Dwight McCarthy, stands in the bathroom listening. When Jackie-Boy enters the bathroom, Dwight threatens him and shoves his head down the toilet. Jackie-Boy makes a break for it and is pursued by Dwight until they end up in Old Town. Here, Jackie-Boy pulls a gun on a prostitute, Becky, who has been refusing to get into the car with him. Before he can make another move, he is killed by Miho.John HartiganAt almost 60, Detective John Hartigan is one of the only honest men left in the Basin City police department, and he is about to retire. On the eve of his retirement, he tracks Roark Junior who has kidnapped eleven year old Nancy Callaghan and plans to brutally murder her. Although Hartigan manages to save Nancy and shoot Roark Junior several times, he is betrayed by his own partner and gravely injured. Senator Roark pays to keep him alive in order to protect his son by framing Hartigan for Junior's crimes. Although Hartigan refuses to confess, Roark's plan works, and Hartigan is imprisoned. While he was in prison his family left him, but Nancy continued to write to him once a week, becoming his only reason to live. Nancy's letters eventually stopped and soon after, Hartigan received an envelope which contained a human finger. Convinced that Nancy had been kidnapped again, Hartigan finally confessed to the crimes he had been falsely imprisoned for and tracked Nancy down to Kadie's where she was working as a dancer. When he saw that she was alive and well, he realised he had been tricked into leading Roark Junior straight to her. Hartigan and Nancy went on the run, stopping in a motel where Nancy confessed that she was in love with him, but Hartigan refused her advances. Having found them in the motel, Junior abducted Nancy and strung Hartigan up to die. Hartigan managed to escape and made his way to the Roark family farm where he killed a number of bodyguards and Roark Junior, rescuing Nancy. Realising that Nancy would be in danger so long as he was alive, Hartigan kissed her passionately before shooting himself.KevinDeeply religious, Kevin began killing prostitutes and eating their bodies in order to consume their souls. When he confessed his actions to Cardinal Roark, Roark took him in, giving him shelter and encouraging him to act out his impulses, believing them to be messages from god. Kevin tended to kidnap the girls of Old Town, keeping them captive and removing a limb at a time to eat. When they were finally dead, he kept their heads as trophies. All this was done without him uttering a word or a sound. Kevin seems to have picked prostitutes as his victims as they had no one who would care that they had been killed. When he kills Goldie, however, he makes a fatal mistake as Marv vows to track down her killer and give them what they deserve. Marv goes through with his plan, finally capturing Kevin and cutting his limbs off, before beheading him.LucilleA lawyer, Lucille unsuccessfully defends Detective Hartigan when he is accused of kidnapping Nancy Callaghan. Later, she acts as Marv's parole officer, becoming something like a friend. Her girlfriend, a psychiatrist, prescribes Marv with pills to keep his mental illness under control and Marv accesses the pills through Lucille. Lucille is kidnapped by Kevin who cuts off one of her arms. Although she is later saved by Marv, she is fatally shot by the Sin City police to cover up Kevin's connection with the Roark family.ManuteAlthough usually dressed as a chaffeur, Manute is a top class bodyguard. While working for Ava Lord, he repeatedly beat up Dwight McCarthy. In return, Dwight took one of Manute's eyes whilst Miho drove her two swords through his arms. After the death of Mrs Lord, Manute was hired by the Colonel and Wallenquist. Whilst in their employ he goes after Wallace, amongst other people, eventually suffering a beating at Wallace's hands. Seeimingly indestructible, he is finally killed by the girls of Old Town in an ambush.MihoOld Town's premier assassin, Miho was once rescued from white slave traders by Dwight McCarthy and since then has rescued his life several times. A few inches short of five feet, Miho is one of the deadliest, if not the deadliest, people in Basin City. Armed with Japanese swords and shuriken, Miho protects the girls of Old Town, swiftly dispatching anyone who threatens them. Miho never seems to speak, keeping her silence through all of her actions. Miho does not react favourably to racial slurs, and tends to draw out the deaths of those who use them. When travelling outside of Old Town, she seems to favour the use of roller blades to get around.Nancy CallahanAt the age of 11, Nancy was kidnapped by Roark Junior who almost raped her. However, before he could go through with the rape, she was rescued by Detective John Hartigan. When Hartigan was wrongfully accused of her kidnap, Nancy asked to testify on his behalf but was prevented from doing so by the police. Nancy vowed to write to Hartigan once a week when he was in prison, signing her letter 'Cordelia', and she did so, much to his surprise. When she grew up, Nancy became an exotic dancer at Kadie's to pay her way through college, and it was here that she befriended Marv. It was at Kadie's that Hartigan found her again after being tricked into believing that she had been kidnapped again. Nancy and Hartigan went on the run, stopping in a motel, where Nancy told Hartigan that she was in love with him. Soon after this, she was kidnapped by Roark Junior again and taken to the Roark farm where she was brutally tortured. No matter what Roark Junior did to her, though, she refused to scream, mocking him through the whole thing. She was once again saved by Hartigan who kissed her, before killing himself, believing that she would never be safe while he was alive.Patrick Henry RoarkA doctor and a priest, Roark served in the medical corps during either World War II or the Korean War, distinguishing himself along the way. Back in America, he rose to become a Cardinal and gained significant political influence. It is suggested that it was this influence that gained his brother a seat in the Senate. At some point, Roark encountered Kevin. Convinced that god was in communication with Kevin, a serial killing cannibal, Roark took him in. He was brutally killed by Marv who was seeking revenge for the murder of Goldie.Roark Junioraka That Yellow Bastard. The son of Senator Roark, Junior had a taste for kidnapping and raping prepubescent girls. His crimes were covered very successfully by his father and so Junior continued unchecked until he abducted Nancy Callahan. He is discovered by Detective Hartigan before he can do anything to Nancy and shot several times. One of these shots castrates him. Thanks to his father, Junior is not blamed for the incident and, instead, Hartigan is framed for the crime. Over the next few years, Junior is forced to undergo multiple surgeries in an attempt to repair the limbs that Haritgan destroyed with his gunfire. Although he lives, his once handsome face is deformed and his skin takes on a yellow colour. Junior goads Hartigan into believing that he has kidnapped Nancy again and then follows him as Hartigan tracks Nancy down. Nancy and Hartigan flee to a motal, but Junior follows, kidnapping Nancy and stringing Hartigan up from the ceiling. Back at the family farm, Junior whips Nancy but she refuses to beg for mercy, figuring out that he is impotent after what Hartigan did to him. Before Junior can do anything else, Hartigan bursts in, stabbing him in the chest before beating him to death.Senator RoarkSupposedly helped to his position in the Senate by his brother, Cardinal Roark, Senator Roark is hugely rich and powerful, controlling most of Basin City. Roark hoped that his son would become President one day, but instead he turned out to have uncontrollable violent urges which frequently lead him to abduct and rape prepubescent girls. Fully aware of his sons crimes, Roark successfully covers them up. When Detective Hartigan almost kills Roark Junior, then almost dying himself, Senator Roark pays for Hartigan's hospital bills. He tells Hartigan that he doesn't want to see him die because he intends to frame him for Junior's crimes. He is successful, eventually seeing Hartigan confess to everything. However, this directly leads to Junior's death at the hands of Hartigan, and Roark is left without a son to bestow his legacy upon.ShellieA barmaid at Kadie's, Shellie previously dated Jack Rafferty who physically abused her during their relationship. Whether or not she and Jack officially broke up is unclear. For her part, Shellie wanted nothing more to do with him, sleeping with other men. However, one night, a drunk Jackie-Boy shows up at her apartment looking for some fun before he is scared off by Dwight McCarthy. After this incident, she does not see Dwight for several months.WallaceA former Navy SEAL, Wallace received the Medal of Honor, before quietly settling down in Sin City where he makes his living as an artist and cook. One day he stops a stranger from drowning, only to discover that she had been trying to commit suicide. However, Wallace and the woman, Esther, soon become close, but Esther is kidnapped by one of Sin City's crime bosses, breaking their connection. Forgetting about everything else, Wallace sets out to rescue her and punish the people responsible for her abduction. He eventually rescues Esther, killing a great many people along the way.
