i got hired!!!! i'm a copy editor at the Japan Times now!!! holy shit!!!

About Me

i've kind of moved to facebook.i live and teach in a sleepy but picturesque japanese town sandwiched between a small mountain and the seto inland sea. i live in a "japanese-style squat", which basically means it's just a reclaimed house, but everything is legal and proper. i have a killer view of the harbour out of all of my windows and pay next to nothing. my toilet is like an outhouse tho.i teach english to japanese kids in public shcools and mostly really enjoy my job, but more so now that i have decided to leave. i never realized how much i like kids until i started to hang out with them all day long. i don't have the patience though, to become a proper teacher, so forget about that.i'm about to make a pretty big transition in life from living here in japan to kind of "moving on" with the rest of whatever is meant to come next- which i usually find rather heavy- but has a certain lightness to it too. and i'm grateful for the freedom to re-arrange my life like that.people sometimes ask me to speak up, but i don't think i've ever been described as soft-spoken. conversation with strangers doesn't come naturally to me- but i think i've gotten better at it in japan.i'm very pisces and very entj. it's a tricky mix, but i think everyone is tricky in their own way.i pull the covers up all the way to my face, and i'm only a morning person if i've had enough sleep or if there is someone next to me.

My Interests

words, ideas, meaning, sense, god, reason, and making useful or interesting things out of useless or uninteresting things. non-repetitive tasks, thoughtfulness, board games, card games, people who make their lives into art even just a little. and i'm very interested in my new fisheye camera/taking pictures in general.

I'd like to meet:

inspiring people who at least some of the time, believe in big beautiful complex things.people who can find me a good apartment or good job in TOKYO this fall.

Music:

bjork

Movies:

run lola run

Television:

my current down-load rotation is; csi, er, grey's anatomy, l word, 24. i keep meaning to start lost....

Books:

zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance, the powerbook, a very small introduction to poststructuralism, the prophet.

Heroes:

i remember asking my mom a similar question once for a school project, and she answered "why would i want to be like anyone else?". so, besides the obvious contradiction, i'd have to say my mom is my hero.
