About Me

Background from Yahoo search resultExecutive Director Dirk A. Van Velzen, himself an incarcerated student, founded the PSF (Prison Scholarship Fund) in 2004 with the help of his father, Willet Van Velzen, who directs the fund.
"Through my own struggles in pursuing a degree in prison, I sympathize with incarcerated students. The Prison Scholar Fund provides the support I wish I had when starting my post-secondary education." ~Dirk A. Van Velzen
OUR MISSION
The Prison Scholar Fund invests in incarcerated post-secondary students and advocates criminal justice reform.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

YOU CAN HELP!!!
Incarcerated students are not eligible for federal financial aid. As a result, post-secondary education opportunities are virtually nonexistent.
There are several ways that you can help:
1. Contact your congressional representative and tell them to support an amendment of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 to once again allow for Pell Grant eligibility to incarcerated students.
2. Volunteer assistance is always welcome. Contact us at the address below for details.
3. Make a tax deductible donation to the Prison Scholar Fund! Send a check or money order payable to "The Prison Scholar Fund":
The Prison Scholar Fund
23517 Orville Road East
Orting, WA 98360
The Prison Scholar Fund is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization. Over 90% of all donated funds directly support Prison Scholars. All contributions are fully tax deductible.
"Education has for its object the formation of character." ~Herbert Spencer
