well, right now it begins and ends with bootyghettotech, but aside from that i'll start with... JAZZ! Mostly old school straight ahead jazz. LOVE Ella Fitzgerald...LOVE SCAT! One of the purest forms of expression IMO and one of the most inspiring artforms to me musically and in life. Watch this w/ Ella and Count Basie towards the end of their careers: .. I also love Herbie Hancock, Billie Holiday, Carmen McRae, Etta James, Duke Ellington, Rodgers & Hart, Headhunters, Cab Calloway, Annie Ross and others.
FUNK! James Brown layed the groundwork for so much of what I enjoy playing now. Also, Sly Fidelity and the Family Stone, George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic, Frankie Smith and others.
ANALOG Yes it's purism but it's true. Here is one of my favorite OLD SKOOL acts ROGER AND ZAPP, performing with not a vocoder, but a talk box to produce that synthetic voice action! ..
DIVA VOCALS!! Yes, yes it's true...soulful fierce diva vocals!! Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Patsy Cline (country diva), etc... Black Boxchristina aguilera
80s & 90s I think like many of us, a lot of my love for breaks was shaped by the funky pop music from back in the day...here are some nostalgic examples: , JJFad, *miami bass in general*, Afrika Baambaataa (new and old), Janet Jackson, Madonna, Paula Abdul, NKOTB! *gasp*, Depeche Mode, Basswars, C & C Music Factory, La Bouche, Sublime, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, *GRUNGE MUSIC* etc....
ELECTRO (especially florida style), BREAKS.....Stanton Warriors, Deekline & Wizard, Volsoc, Jackal N' Hyde, Peaches, DJ Funk, DJ Assault, Old Sharaz, Old Fixx, Exzakt, Icey, Si Begg, Simply Jeff, Freq Nasty, DJ Dan, JJ Fad, Dynamix II, Scratch D, Hydraulix, Fannypack, Mike & Charlie, Buzzthrill, Agent K & Deuce, JBreak, dare I say Charly Murphy, Momentum, DJ Dan old school, Adam Freeland old school, old TCR,
Some other current stuff includes Imogen Heap, Danny Elfman (Tim Burton films, Oingo Boingo), Norah Jones, Fiona Apple, Broadway Music in General...there's more but ugh if anyone has read this far i commend you.OH can't forget Patsy, Edina, Tequila and Scotch.
Sounds Like: Funky breakbeats. Electro. Miami bass.
