...if I...should jump up and holler...without a reason...straight from the collar, it's my soul...

About Me

Hola. Me llamo Thomas. Soy de Orlando. Soy un cocinero y soy un estudiante en la universidad de Warrington de negocio en la universidad de la Florida. Me gusta muchachas atractivas y musica y cerveza. Voy a escuela aquí...

My name is Thomas. Right now I am a full-time student at the Warrington College of Business at The University of Florida. In 2004, I decided to take on the endeavor of going back to school, so I went for it. It's been the most important thing in my life since I began the process. I got my associates degree with the business pre-reqs from SFCC, and then I transferred over to UF's business school. I'm working on a bachelor's in business management, and I'm also studying food science as a minor. I am considering staying here for a masters in international business or possibly an MBA. I work in the culinary / foodservice industry, and have done so since I was 14. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to attend college right now. It's something that I've always wanted to do. I also look forward to finishing up in a couple of years, and returning to my full-time career. I feel that it was well worth the investment to slice out a few years of my life to work toward this goal. UF is a really neat place, and it has alot of history and culture to it. I think I picked the perfect place to get my learn on! GO GATORS, C'MON GATORS, GET UP AND GO!

My hobbies include shakin' my ass to some good live music, going to the gym at school, cooking, nintendo wii bowling (I enjoy real bowling too), playing darts, riding my bike, camping during a music festival (Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL, and Stone Mountain Georgia, near Atlanta, for example), playing frisbee on the beach, disc golf, scrabble, kayaking in the ocean in Dunedin, Florida (Caladesi and Honeymoon Islands), cruising down the local North Florida rivers in a canoe or an inner tube.

I also collect live music recordings from various rock, blues, jazz, reggae, zydeco, and bluegrass bands. A detailed list of these recordings is located at the following links... Etree and at Phishhook. I update them periodically. The Phishhook page is more comprehensive, as I have it broken down into some shows that I've attended in the past, audio that I've archived in data format, concert dvds, etc. Even though school and work consumes most of my time right now, I still try to balance my hobbies. I am also the etree source administrator for the band Blueground Undergrass, and I maintain their show recording database here.

During my work travels, in 1995, I had the pleasure of attending a continuing education program at the Culinary Institute of America in New York. The campus is beautiful, and it is right on the Hudson River. Here is a group photo from that experience. I'm the dude with the goatee near the center, back row. Oops, I blinked!"

My Interests

Accentuating the positives, rational thought, gettin' my learn on (school and otherwise), work, going to the gym, candor, shakin' my ass to some good live music, keepin' it real, honest people, cooking, then eating, personal integrity, learning how to play electric guitar, truth, fun, people being cordial and uplifting to one another, Krishna lunch on University of Florida campus , working toward my goals, tubing down the Ichetucknee river, kayaking in the ocean to Caladesi and Honeymoon Islands, in Dunedin, Florida, treating people with respect for their dignity, growing rosemary and thyme on my doorstep (tomatoes and habaneros in the summer). Lather, rinse, repeat.

I'd like to meet:

I like kind, cordial, unpretentious, good-natured peeps. Take these fine peeps below, for example.

Music:

I'm a huge music fan. I love jazz, bluegrass, blues, classic rock, zydeco, reggae, celtic, jambands, funk, some older country music, etc. I love live, handcrafted music. It feeds my soul. The music scratches me right where I itch, and I enjoy the fellowship of like-minded people. I've traveled over the years to see particular bands and music festivals. I believe that is where it's at! It's what keeps me movin'....and groovin' :) Here is a list of some of the concerts I've gone to over the years.

Oh, I love National Public Radio as well; mainly programs such as A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor, Car Talk, Fresh Air, All Things Considered.

Movies:

Yes please.

Television:

Seinfeld, Family Guy, King of Queens. I'm also a big fan of PBS stuff such as Frontline, Now, and unbiased news programs such as Washington Week with Gwen Ifill, News Hour with Jim Lehrer, Charlie Rose, Bill Moyers Journal, etc. Regarding the PBS stuff, as a kid, I recall looking at that stuff in the TV Guide thinking "Who the hell would watch this crap?!" Now I find that it is the best stuff on television.

Books:

I love to read. Right now it's skool books. Some I've enjoyed in the past include On The Road, Confederacy of Dunces, The Naked Ape, The Food Lover's Companion (this one is more of a reference book). I also subscribe to Restaurants and Institutions magazine.

Heroes:

People who are kind, hardworking, cordial, humble, considerate, good-natured and unpretentious.

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others...

Poignant words

An old friend, and co-worker who moved to NC a few years ago, Scott Schroeder sent me this on New Years Day, and I wanted to share. I thought that this was wonderfully poignant... I Believe I believ...
