Thanks to everyone who came out to the 10/26/2008 Ann arbor Zombie Walk & Food Drive. We had a total of 53 zombies and a full drum of donations for the food bank Food Gatherer's. I will have more information on the outcome of the international counts as I get information on that.
We were in the Ann Arbor Newspaper on the 27th.
I have uploaded pictures and have more coming. I also have film coming of the walk.
STAY TUNED IN FOR UPCOMING ZOMBIE WALK EVENTS!!2008 WZD COUNT:
World Zombie Day tally at 6,479.
Attendance figures for the first ever World Zombie Day were tallied and the cumulative number for 27 of the 48 participating cities was 6,479. Preliminary estimates put the total at close to 10,000.World Zombie Day was created by Mark Menold, producer and host of Pittsburgh's "The It's Alive Show", as an outlet for zombie fans everywhere to have a chance to participate in a world record attempt as well as accomplish a charitable mission of raising awareness of the problem of global hunger. Close to 50 cities were slated to hold zombie walks and food drives on Sunday, October 26.More than 1,300 zombies gathered at the Monroeville Mall outside Pittsburgh , PA , exceeding the city's count from last year by 325 – a second consecutive Guinness World Record was set there in 2007. Food donations are still being weighed by the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, but organizers feel that donations far exceed that of last year (1,200 pounds). The mall zombie walk was led by Ken Foree, star of the zombie film Dawn of the Dead which was filmed at Monroeville Mall in 1978. Foree, much like his character in Dawn, was clad in military gear including gas mask and rifle and at one point pushed a wheelbarrow carrying a replica of his partner "Roger" from the film while being chased zombies.2008 was the 3rd year for the Ann Arbor Zombie Walk. Ann Arbor however, loves their rotten little brain eaters and has several hosts who help to spread their own zombie infection. Look for one during Punk Week in August. Zombie breakouts seem to happen at random too through out the year. We will try to keep you posted so you can have your survival strategy ready unless, of course you want to be eaten alive...or be the one who does the brain eating!Every year the Zombie Walks get bigger. The more zombies who shamble out, the funner it is. It also helps local charities who may be benefiting from donations given at the walk. So, stay informed of any zombie activity in your area!
