Gina L. McFadden is a young aspiring singer/ model. Singing since the age of only 2 or 3 Gina has known it was what she wanted to do her entire life. Growing up she was inspired at a young age by people like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and her own dad (Lonnie McFadden) who is a world renowned entertainer (singer, tap dancer, trumpet player). So, the apple didn’t fall to far from the tree. At the age of 7 years old Gina sang for the 1st time (live in front of an audence) in her schools talent show singing Whitney Houston’s “The Greatest Love of Allâ€, and ’wowing’ the entire audience ending the song with a standing ovation. She then sang in her 1st paying gig at the age of 9. She was featured at “The Pointâ€, a venue that features jazz entertainment. From there came more singing opportunities for this young aspiring singer. From the age of 12-15 Ms. McFadden’s summers were spent singing and performing every week at various parks working for a company called “Park & Recreation Expressâ€. As you see singing and performing isn’t something this young lady shy’s away from at all. Gina attended middle school at (KCMSA) Kansas City Middle School of The Arts where her voice was recognized by not only her peers, but the staff as well. Particularly the choir teachers noticed her talent. She was offered the opportunity to sing in the schools top choir, Show Choir, her 6th grade year. Show Choir was not only the “top choir†but the choir for 7th and 8th grade students only, but Ms. McFadden changed that being the only 6th grader in the choir. She didn’t want to stop at that though, so she also signed up for Girls Choir and any play and musical auditions the school offered keeping her busy. She landed a singing role in the popular musical “Little Shop of Horrorâ€, along with a role in the popular musical “Oliverâ€, and an acting role in a play called “Up The Down Stair Caseâ€. In high school she then attended “Shawnee Mission North High Schoolâ€. There wasn’t much of a variety of choirs there at all but she was in the one they did have until singing in the schools talent show. The jazz band teacher was so amazed by Ms. McFadden’s vocal ability she came up with the idea to have Ms. McFadden as the leading singer in front of the jazz band singing songs like Ms. Billy Holiday’s “Good Morning Heartache†and “God Bless The Childâ€. It didn’t stop there. Gina graduated at an unusually young age, at the age of 16 she was ready to be a graduate graduating with the class of 2001. The principal wanted to do something a little different for graduation this year. Something the school never offered a student, but Ms. McFadden was asked to sing her choice of a song of inspiration to her graduating class at graduation. She chose to sing, again, Whitney Houston’s “The Greatest Love of All†which touched everyone. Although she was very involved in developing and showcasing her singing ability in school, outside of school the singing didn’t stop. She has graced the stages of The Gem Theatre, The Blue Room, and The Red Vine here in Kansas City on 18th & Vine, Kansas City’s known historically black area, where many of the great jazz and blues singers of the city made there name, including Gina’s own dad. Although Kansas City recognized her talent was something special the true test for Gina was going to be auditioning for the hottest talent competition on television “American Idolâ€. At the age of 19 she did her research and flew out to the Washington D.C. auditions. There was a turn out of well over 9,000 people in that city alone and the wait to audition took not only hours but a couple of days. It was all worth it in the end to be one of only 40 idol hopefuls to make it to Hollywood with a golden ticket in that audition city alone. Getting to Hollywood Gina was still up against about 400 contestants all hoping to be the next American Idol. Every day was another performance and was also another “cutâ€. After two and a half weeks of back to back performances the judges had to get it down to the Top 40 contestants standing. Ms. McFadden was one of them. She’s proven time and time again she is up to any challenge and have the drive and determination needed in this industry.
