Driving Reign

About Me

....Driving Reign is a band of musical friends. The formation of the group was an informal last minute sort of "jam session" at a little bar on the north side of town. Gary received a phone call from an excellent guitar buddy named Bobby Caldwell. "Bobby's band was double booked and could pass on a date if I had anything ready to cover it". ...Gary had been playing acoustic duo spots with Matt for several weeks. Matt's musical and vocal abilities are very diverse. The foundation was there to create a loose relaxed jam which would soon serve as the "first gig" for a four piece band. Gary met Matt and drummer KJ at Matt's open mic in River Park a couple of years earlier. "I attended most of his open mics from then on. It was consistently the best one in town" he said. Gary also remembers "KJ was the most original and precise local drummer I have seen in recent years. And wow, no ego". Later open mics revealed that KJ was also one of the most comfortable and fluent bassmen around. "His many talents are impressive". Tim and Gary go back more than twenty years. Tim's musical interests were somewhat hindered at the time by the blues format of the band he worked with. ... Timing is everything, and Tim mentioned that he was curious about playing more pop and dance oriented music. Looking back on many classic rock dates they had played together in earlier years, he and Gary had quite a list of good old hits to resurrect. Tim said he was also available for the upcoming "first gig". He and Matt would switch hit on bass, 6 string and vocals. All four original band mates remained involved with one or more bands other than Driving Reign. "We played several smooth and enjoyable dates together in spite of our commitments with other groups". The constant co-ordination of four busy schedules soon ran into difficulty and required the addition of Joe "the new drummer". Joe played in a previous band where he met Gary and Tim. He was all ears about covering maybe half of the dates that were quickly accumulating on Driving Reign's second year calendar. In the next few years we started using Joe more often due to KJ’s many musical projects, some taking him on the road.We really enjoy the chemistry that the four of us have developed and sharpened during these last years although we all have our individual preferences in styles, we seem to find common ground and show mutual respect when deciding on songs to cover. See www.drivingreign.net for updated set list. Driving Reign is now well into it's fifth year. "We are more focused than those first couple of loose jams, but the informal approach to having fun together with music remains the glue that keeps our schedule filled with Great gigs and great friends"...
