About Me

My name is Kurt Magnus Lindal, I’m 55 years old, and I’ve been playing the guitar for about 40 years, and I’ve been singing for over 50. I was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in May of 1952. My parents moved us to the United States when I was two years old. I have been living in or around Edmonton, Alberta, Canada for the better part of 35 years, I spent most of the time before that in Venice, California. I’ve been told that in live performance my singing and guitar playing frequently raises the hair on the back of listener’s necks or causes chills to run down their spines. These weren’t complaints; but rather, professions of emotional affinity with songs that I had played for them. My lyrics have been described as moving, well connected, smooth flowing and provocative. People have told me that watching my finger picking is a form of entertainment all by its self, and that I appear like a magician pulling music from the guitar by waving my fingers over the strings as apposed to laboriously forcing the sounds from them. My goal in writing and singing is to produce music that will strike an emotional cord within the experiences of your life, as it does my own, and expose the human condition to clear and simple reflection. In some cases I hope my songs will motivate you to some action, in others my desire is to impress on you the similarities of emotional response we all share. And always, I hope my music will entertain and please you. If you would like to learn more about me and my music please feel free to visit me on the web at: http://www.kurtlindal.com . Band Members: Unfortunately, or not, as I set out on my journey to a career in music I am on my own. However, I have the driving push of my 3 most ardent and critical fans to help keep me motivated. They are my two common law and unadopted children and their most excellent cousin. They are: Kateri and Hughy Jones, the children of my heart, and their cousin Michel Clark, without whose constant support and encouragment I could never even contemplate this terrifying adventure.
Influences: More than any other, Mississippi John Hurt, then follows: The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, John Denver, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, Neil Diamond, Eric Clapton, Bob Seager, Dr. Hook, Cat Stevens, Donovan, Paul Simon, Steven Stills, Neil Young, Dire Straits, and Jason Michael Carrol’s-"Alyssa Lies" One of the most heart wrenching songs I’ve ever heard.
