BiographyMostly known for his Summer 2008 single, "Get It", Barron "BJay Blast!" Johnson has much more in store. Born and raised in the Dallas "Hood" called Oak Cliff, he has always been around some sort of musical influence. With a mother who was the lead singer in a garage band founded and centered in Oak Cliff, he looked to his mothers music as an inspiration. But inspiration isn't enough, so with the help of his father he was able to record his first song, on a kareoke machine, in 2002.
"It felt kinda weird to hear myself rappin' and all of that", states the 16 year old, "But for about a week, that was the only song i listened to." Though the song was liked among family members, it never made it out of BJay's house. The song was erased along with BJay's dreams of becoming a rapper.
In 2007, while hanging around with a couple of his peers, BJay decided to get back to doing music. This time was it was different; he decided to make sure he kept his dream alive and coninue making music no matter what. So, after purchasing a microphone and music studio software, BJay recorded his first official song entitled "Drop Em".
The song was seen as a lyrical and hit potential track among his peers. "It was crazy, I would walk down the hallways and hear random people i didn't even know singing my song," he remembers. With the major confidence boost, he decided to continue making songs through out the rest of the 2006-2007 school year.
In Summer of 2007, he had a change of his views on music thanks to the likes of Lil Wayne, Kia Shine and Tum Tum. Due to the change of views, he decided to stop trying to please others and make music he would like to listen to, which mainly consisted of "swag music". This led him to record his 1st hit single "Bape Junky". The young rapper still claims that "people still know [him] by that song." The song gained him more exposure than he had ever obtained in the previous months.
After recording numerous songs for his mixtape, many of which were never released, he decided to take a break from rapping and focus on school. After that school year ended, he decided to take things seriously and go to a professional recording studio, which resulted in the recording of his single "Get It".
The single, "Get It", can be found on iTunes along with Rhapsody and Amazon.com. The single even hit the airwaves on the local radio station, K104. The single's success introduced BJay to new experiences such as doing shows and local recognition. "The whole 'Get It' song was an accident", he says, "I only recorded it because I had extra studio time left."
With the success of his previous singles, "Get It" and "Twerk Sumn", he now hopes to gain even more success with his next single, "Stupid Geek'd", which features Suprise Guest. The young rapper states that the song was inspired by These Artist's music, which "swept through the Dallas party scene like craZy."
Though just a Junior at DeSoto High School, BJay has plans to take over the whole Dallas music scene. With his music making major progress on myspace, the high schooler may have what it takes to become a major face in the Dallas music movement.
