“Who will save rock & roll ?â€Yes who ? Well perhaps those four guys rehearsing in cold garages and stuffy storage spaces. Didn't we see these worn out faces, smoky amplifiers and bruised Gibsons before?Yes sir, three ex- Definitivos are back. The notorious Definitivos from Kortrijk, famous for their live-set in the eighties from Arras (France) to the Amsterdam Melkweg. Two indie-hitsingles, the EP "Besse" and a never to be released cult LP were their claim to fame. Whoever wants to write about the history of rock in Kortrijk can't deny these guys. "The modern dance, Mr. C and Courtrai tonight" (9 weeks in Humo's Hitlist, by the way) were true Belpopclassics. Collectors are paying heavy money for this rare vinyl nowadays, and the songs are being covered by bands all over the world, from Japan to the USA.The hard core (Rik, Dee and Frans) later on formed The Whydads and released the album "That's why" recorded with producer Theo Van Eenbergen, known for his work with Henri Rollins. And now they're back : Rik, Frans Frank, Dee Jaywalker and the young stray dog El Diablo. In a very fast set this punky rockband takes you for a walk with The Sex Pistols, Clash, Kids, Undertones, Dictators, Stooges, Johnny Thunders, Cat Stevens (???), Ramones, Demolition 23 and of course Definitivos.Line –up :RIK MASSELIS : the living metronome, choping wood with the legendary P.I.G.Z. (supporting Iggy Pop in Vorst National). He was a day 1 member of Definitivos and Whydads, and now he's back, alive and tickin'.DEE JAYWALKER aka Ramone : played the guitar in 37 bands before becoming a Definitivo and Whydad. He made his dreams come true and toured the States, Japan and Europe with Marky Ramone and the Speedkings. In 2007 he toured with Walter Lure (from the Heartbreakers) with whom he recorded a live-album in Berlin. He also released a solo-cd " 59 o'clock" on Nicotine Records, and is big in the french part of Belgium with his Greyhound Dogs.FRANS FRANK HOLVOET : bass-player in Definitivos and Whydads, wrote "The modern dance, Mr. C and Courtrai tonight". Later he organised the Pleinconcerten, Mayday Festival and Summer Carnival. Gave the city more music than it could bear.EL DIABLO : ex-legionaire, Elixir d'Anvers-addict, used to write poetry for STuBru, and makes his debut as a singer with Relatinos. The Relatinos will not conquer the world, appear on MTV, pass on bunches of groupies or make a platinum cd......they will do what they're best at : rock & roll in your face.
They made their first appearance at Vlas Vegas in May, but they have to be released on all sort of stages asap. Any time any place. For bookings or info please mail to [email protected]. And yes : "Who will save rock & roll" is on their set list.
