About Me

Hi, my name is Pizzi's Pride a.k.a. "DOC". My name is pronounced Peeetsi, as in pizza with an i. During my naming process, my owner wanted to name me after someone who is successful and influential in his field, for good luck. The candidate he chose was Dr. William Pizzi.
Dr. William. J. Pizzi is Professor of Psychology & Director of the Neuropsychology Laboratory at Notheastern Illinois University in Chicago. Dr. Pizzi is one of the nicest and classiest people you could ever meet. It's an honor to carry his name. I hope to make him proud!!!!!!!!
Again, my name is Pizzi's Pride and I'm a 5 year old Thoroughbred race horse, that is currently in training at Calder Race Course. I was born on March 15, 2003 in Florida, in one of the best crop of 3 year olds in many years. My Sire (Father) is Breeders Cup Juvenile winner "IS IT TRUE". My Dam (Mother) is "ZILI" by Champion miler "ZIZAL". She died foaling a Rubiano in 2005 and will be missed. Mom was owned by the Sheik and came from a line of Dams that threw multiple stakes horses, stakes producing horses, and champions. For example, my GrandDam (Grandmother) is HONEST AND TRUE. She was third in the Kentucky Oaks and is the Dam of EPITOME, the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies winner. EPITOME, in turn is the Dam of "ESSENCE OF DUBAI". STAKES horses run in my family and I'm just trying to follow in their footsteps. Unfortunately, due to terrible and dishonest trainers, accompanied with my owners misfortunes; personally and professionally, my career has been a nightmare!!! Thank God my original owner had the fortune to get me back from the Butchers at Ocala West Training Facility. Anyways, when I win or place in a Stakes race, every Dam down the line will have thrown a black type horse. As you could tell by the statement above, I'm a confident individual with a very high opinion of myself. They've told me that I have a Stud's Pedigree. I just need the opportunity and care to prove myself against good horses. I've had the fortune of training with stakes horses, besides running against and beating multiple stakes horses with winnings exceeding 500,000. Three of these horses are now standing at stud. I've never really had a good opportunity, but hopefully things will change now that I'm in a different barn. I really love my new trainer Richard Root because he is a patient and caring horseman. He really believes in me and that's all i need. I haven't seen my owner since May of 2006 and I really miss him, especially all the carrots and mints. For my owner and trainer, the future is the finish line and God willing, I'm just the horse to take them there.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Any horse that beat me in my first 7 races where I ran with no heels and a knee chip. Had my owner known about my problems, he would've never let me run. Eventhough I was hurt, I ran 5 seconds, finishing in front of Stakes winners and horses currently standing at stud, in very competetive races. One race in particular, was a tick faster than the Essex Stakes (Which Rockport Harbor won). My maiden race and the Essex Stakes race were twenty minutes apart, on the same day and on the same track at Oaklawn. Now my owner can understand why Calvin Borel and Robbie Albarado said I was still trying to learn how to put my feet down. Knee surgery and allowing my heels to grow cost me my whole 3 year old racing season. Thank you to Blue Sink Farm and Dr. John McClellan for all their care and love. Especially Peaches and Heather.

I would love to meet any horse that beat me on short rest in Florida, against my owner's wishes of course. (Between trainers Wolfson and Jablow, 7 races in 10 weeks which is not conducive to winning races at that level. Especially after coming off of knee surgery and running a 9 Ragozin number. Those back to back races, knocked me out of training for a total of 9 months, pretty much costing me my 4 year old season).
