About Me

Charlie Hunter grew up in Birmingham, where he fell in love with the half-barbaric twang listening to clawhammer banjo extraordinaire and uncle Duncan Blair of Alabama old-time stalwarts Flying Jenny. In 2004 Charlie moved to Providence, RI to attend Brown University and, in his exile, started learning banjo and fiddle. He played in a couple of old-time bands in college – the Hog-Eyed Men and later, the One Time String Band – and hosted a weekly roots music show on 88.1 FM, Brown Student and Community Radio. During the summers, Charlie started trying to build banjos out of gourds.

After graduating, Charlie moved back home, where he is farming by day and playing music and brewing beer by night. He recently joined the line-up of Flying Jenny, and is also playing with the bright rising stars of Birmingham's booming old-time scene, The Yahoos.

Charlie sure likes making this music, and he hopes you enjoy listening to it.
