2010 kicked off with a bang for The Dirty Roots starting with a return to Gifted at the Belfast Empire Music Hall on the 9th of January and a recent intimate performance at the new Outlaw Live night at Belfast Bar, McHughs on the 29th Jan.
The new year has also brought change to the band as they wave farewell to Bass Player, Nick Todd who has just opened a new Eco Living shop, Spiral Threads in Belfast City Centre. The band are sad to say goodbye to Nick and wish him well but are also happy and excited to welcome new Bass Player, Stevie Quinn, who they believe will bring a fresh sound and a bumping Bass line to the group.
Taking a brief break to induct Stevie, the band are set to return to the N. Ireland live scene on the 2nd March for the 'Up in the Attic' Session at Belfast Bar, Auntie Annie's with The Farriers and Louisiana Joyride.
See you there!

The Dirty Roots are emerging from the studio to play a headline set at the Empire to promote their debut four track EP.
Hold onto your hats, The Dirty Roots are gonna raise the roof again and belt out their collection of bittersweet and outspoken celebrations of life and love.
At the release of their new EP “Dirty Rootsâ€, the bands EP marks their coming of age after working hard in the studio, defining themselves as artists and developing as live musicians.
Recently the band has brought a renewed focus to their music, a result, no doubt, of the addition of an energetic bass player (Todd) and soulful vocalist (Ketchie), providing a smooth backdrop to their frenetic percussion (Scullion) and recklessly catchy guitar melodies (Craig & Murray). As the band plays; the lyrics float, holler and grab hold of the listener as Craig and Murray piece their way through a blistering chorus of voices, harmonies and texture provided by the talented Scullion and Ketchie.
Everything they play has a timeless quality to it – their influences stretch from Dave Matthews to Mississippi John Hurt; taking a detour round more contemporary influences but paying homage to great innovators like Dylan, The Stones, Weller, Zappa, Page and Plant; who have etched their mark in the bands style and presentation. The Dirty Roots sound is a luscious blend of harmonies and spanking hot riffs, dirty drum kicks and head-melting, bass driven, lullabyes. Bring out the mob, the Dirty Roots are set to bring the Empire down...
Reviews
"Apart from being just about the most aesthetically pleasing band in Belfast, it turns out these guys have a sound to back it up. They filled the room with a mellow rock that made the folks listen up good. The smooth funkiness of vocalist Pete Murray lends the sing-a-long tunes an edginess, which pricks your ears. All that was laced with the sweet vocals of a very fine Ada Ketchie making The Dirty Roots sound more than pretty."

" The Dirty Roots are a five piece Belfast based band who play some of the most soulful rhythm, blues and rock and roll I've ever heard. Citing influences from Dave Matthews to Robert Plant via Mississippi John Hurt, their newself-titled EP is nothing short of a genuine rough diamond.
The opening track Freight Train could easily have been conjured out of a boxcar by Howlin' Wolf himself. Time Alone nods to Jamie T and uses wonderful vocal harmonies to enhance a simple song performced with soul and heart. It wouldn't surprise me if The Healing had been written by Van Morrisson, such is it's class, and Take Me Outta Here finishes off the experience by mixing Broken Social Scene and Ocean Colour Scene.
I never thought a new local band could take such an established genre such as this and re-invent it for the modern listener. Support slots with the likes of Foy Vance and others of his calibre can't be far off. No genuine music fan will fail to enjoy this band.
The Dirty Roots EP, "Dirty Roots", is released on Thursday 26th November"
