JOHNNY A PLAYED TOLEDO SPEEDWAY BAR AND GRILL JULY 2ND,
This was the show to see. Frostbite opened with a fabulous set and Johnny A took the stage and performed for a straight 90-100 minutes. He wowed the audience and commanded their attention with crescendos, flurries, a cornucopia of sounds that can only be described as spectacular. His works of guitar mastery totally baffled the imagination and had fellow guitar players in the audience just on their feet!
I hope that you all saw Rod Lockwood's write up on him in the Thursday Toledo Blade Weekender. After the show, Rod had just one thing to say to me: "Bring him back to Toledo". If you missed this show, you missed a rare treat.
Big thanks go out to Buddy Corlett who ran a stereo sound for Johnny and both Bud and his system performed flawlessly.
I am going to leave the Johnny A videos up for a week or so in order to revisit the thrills of this great show. Thanks to all the blues and jazz fans that came out to enjoy the entertainment and to Barb and company for providing the venue.

ANNOUNCING THIS YEAR'S WINNERS OF BSBS BLUES COMPETITIONFROSTBITE-2008 Best Band
PATRICK LEWANDOWSKI- Best Solo
GOING TO MEMPHIS TO REPRESENT THE BSBS TOLEDO!!!If you missed this year's competition, you missed some of the best acts and musicians that this region has to offer. From Chris Shutter's blazing guitar riffs to the thunder of Dangerlove's B-3 and guitar drenched tunage, these folks played their hearts out and provided a cornucopia of aural delights, the likes of which will not be heard for another year. Each act, without exception, was unique, well rehearsed and...downright amazing. If I had my way, they would all get medals of honor. But, we were there for a competition and at the end of the night, one band and one solo/duo act was going home as "best of show" and this was no easy task for our judges, who came in from Detroit and Cleveland to assist with our task. Big thanks to Maggie McCabe and Sweet Claudette from the Detroit Blues Society and Marlene Farone, Gary "Big Baddy" Craft and Mary Rose Durdak of the Cleveland Blues Society who came into town to assist us.The scoring was really tight and we used the IBC's weighted scale to calculate the final winners. I will post the raw and weighted scales tonight but when all was said and done, PATRICK LEWANDOWSKI came out on top of the solo/duo act competition and THE FROSTBITE BAND took top honors in the band competition. We want to congratulate our winners and thank all of the artists who competed for their effort and for a superlative afternoon and evening of great entertainment.
Have a great week.
Tom
