The Cheshire Set

About Me

The Cheshire Set is one of the last incarnations of the songwritng partnership of Chris Deakin and Seb Bayley. From their origins in 1983 as Direct Action, they have worked on numerous projects including; BiteBack (1985), The Kitchen Staff (1986-88), Above London (1989-91), The Wasp Factory (1997-8), Montag (2000-2003) and Cartrouble (2005-6). Each project has involved different members (family tree to follow) and has had a different flavour, butalways uniquely DA in tone. Deakin adn Bayley have also been tied into other projects during this time, some great moments, others worthy of forgetting! It is probably best to imagine The Cheshire Set as a musicians co-operative which is a community of musicians, artists and film-makers.Presently - our community includes; Andy Boot (inspiration), Wayne Kerr (percussion) and Sale Moor (wisdom beyond knowledge). If you want our influences....too many to mention, but we would be unfair to not mention, Wire, Joy Division, Housemartins, Smiths, Pixies, Nirvana, The Jam,Buzzcocks, ACR, Billy Bragg, Wedding Present, Kraftwerk, Velvet UndergroundIn 2009, the lads plan to make a short film about bands in the wilderness..the grafters. To tell tales of different journeys and how some amazing music and people are out there but never get a look-in. As Seb states 'we have a wealth of modern folk music in the cities and towns of this country..bedroom songsmiths with a passion..but because their face doesn't fit..or they dont play the game..they remain unheard. We will seek them out and help leave their mark!" Sounds like a plan Mr B.They will also be finding time to re-launch the musicians co-operative and get a few live gigs off the ground. ALthough they will be more like happenings..maaaan!! It will be good.
