"Average" by Sean Embrey-StineI am not your average weed-smoking, long-haired, slacker-musician, part-time poet with no ambitions.
I am on a mission to promote
complete and tot-
al individualization!I am a small fish in a big lake, but I find solace
in my cliché palace,
breaking down barriers one misdemeanor at a time.
No, I am not just your average long-haired, teenage rebel, mailbox vandal, professional window-washer with no ambitions.
I envision
a day when the world wakes up and sees no reason to write anything but love songs-
no expense reports, no chemistry essays, no letters of reprimand, no closing arguments or opening statements, no prescriptions, no dictionary definitions, no emo poetry- just Love.I see no reason to paint anything but bright boisterous color splotches, with perhaps a smiley face or two
added later in blue ink.
But I am not your average black coat-clad, heavy-hearted, hello kitty hating anarchist/abstract artist with idealistic inclinations.
I am not your "average" anything!
Although, by virtue of my having expressed my individualism thus, I will be automatically sorted into an "individualistic" demographic, which forces me to assert that
I am not your average individual!I'm too young to remember a time when television programs stopped
ever. Your dated references to an "Indian" that appeared on the screen late at night are lost on me
and if you didn't understand that last line, I might have a drink with you.
If you think this poem is weak because the lines aren't equal lengths and it doesn't rhyme every other line, that's fine.
It rhymes when I want it to rhyme and at no other time because it is mine.
I see no reason to write anything that doesn't flow straight from my heart,
no truth in anything that isn't art, no reason to take part
in anything that doesn't get mankind closer to some sort of major technological or evolutionary breakthrough.
I am not your average big talker, short-distance walker, facebook stalker.
It's time for us all to update our status.

I like the beach, but not to swim in. Mostly I like to climb on the rocks near the water. Or go for long walks across the sand. I like the mountains, but not to hike. I mostly like to just sit atop them. Or sometimes ski down them. I like the river valley. Rafting is fun, but I don't do it much. It's such a huge ordeal to rent the raft and get a bunch of people together.
My friends are all pretty cool. I am often amazed at how much fun we are able to have without alcohol or drugs or anything. It really makes all you hardcore partiers seem rather pathetic. I mean, when was the last time you put got in a shopping cart and had your friend push you in a race down the aisle? Or stayed up at night playing indian poker in a hotel lobby, or stayed up till four in the morning singing songs at the park? Too good.
My other friends are pretty cool, too. I often wonder what dudemonism will become when we are all in our thirties. I hope it won't die, I know it won't die. We'll never grow up, I'm sure we'll still get together and put cups in the road and wait till they're hit by police cars. I'm sure we'll still stay up till four in the morning playing nba live '24 (Chives, too good) I'm sure we'll still be making installments of the motion briqueture. (watch on youtube).
Dudemons forever, goozemonz never!
